  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Collision avoidance activating when using smart cruise.

We should compile a list of how many people have seen this issue and the ratio of fixed with just radar vs radar and camera. I know it's annoying so hopefully you all have good dealers to work with!

I had the camera replaced today so I will update when i can. I started checking different forums for different cars and this seems to be a comon issue. I have a friend with a Tesla and his slams on the brakes on a regular basis. I have heard(not seen in writing) some of the issue is what Feds regulates what the system must recognize. The service manager when into the download history of my car and we saw the problem started after an update.

Well, it took a little over 100 miles but I’m still having the same issue so the service manager is getting back with Genesis. The cameras been replaced and the radar has been replaced. They’re starting to think it’s a software issue.

Well we appear to have a fix. I had the front of the car done with PPF. what I didn’t know was the installer decided to cover the front of the radar protector that’s on the grill. He did a really good job. We didn’t realize anything was on there. Neither did the dealership until while they were out they got an activation. There was nothing in front of the car but the activation showed that the object was 3 inches away. After removing the PPF a bunch of driving has been done and the issue has not reoccurred so I am reasonably confident it’s fixed, but I’ll keep you up-to-date if anything changes.
I also got with my PPF installer to let him know. He said mine was the first car they put PPF on that piece and he wasn’t sure what that piece did. He will now not be installing that on any other cars. The dealership was really good. They could’ve charged me since it was not the cars fault and they did install a new radar and a new camera under warranty and I paid nothing.

Glad you seem to have resolved the issue
We have had zero unnecessary activations since they returned the car to us!

Well, apparently it was premature. The car is not fixed. They are waiting to see what the engineers want to try next.😔

Was the original drive during the day? Ours only acted up at night. Just a piece of info that may help.

They drove it during the day, but it happens to me day and night, high speeds and low speeds

Update it appears to be fixed. I have gone 500 miles without an issue. Last fix was realigning the radar again. Since it was out, I’m assuming when they replace the radar either, they didn’t align it properly or they didn’t tighten. It seems to be fine now.

My G70 started unnecessarily slamming on the brakes on the way home from the Dealership with about 12 miles on the clock. Took it in a month or so ago for repair. Worked fine for about a hundred miles, and doing the same thing again. I have about 3,500 miles on the car, and I have had unnecessary emergency braking activate many times, intermittent wipers go from low speed to high speed with no change in rain, navigation taking me to incorrect locations, gas door freezing shut making it impossible to gas up and blind spot sensors activating with nothing there. Also a rock hitting the windshield with at around 150 miles on the clock, leading to a crack all the way across the windshield right in my line of sight. ( That one not Genesis’s fault, but starting to think the car is cursed)

Did they replace the cruise radar? That's likely the issue unless they haven't aligned it properly. I've never heard of the wiper issue... wonder what that could be? Gas door likely just need the arm adjusted. Sorry to hear about the problems, that many is not normal.

Well, my car is still not fixed. They tried blaming it on the window tint, my PPf and a bunch of other things and after having it all removed, we are now dealing with the factory supposed to hear back for them on Tuesday to see whether they’re going to give me my money back for the car, replace the car or how we want to handle it. I think they’ve given up on trying to fix it, but I have everything on video so they have nowhere to go. The sad part is if it wasn’t for that one issue I absolutely love the car. I’ll let you know what happens.

I would love to hear what the outcome is. I am at the point I turn the cruise off if there is anyone behind me as I am scared the car is going to slam the brakes on and the guy behind thinks I am brake checking him. That actually has happened to me once already. Guy in a truck roared around me and cut me off as he went past. I dont blame him at all. Had it in for service, not sure what they did, but still doing it.

I would love to hear what the outcome is. Mine still doing it after one dealer attempt to fix it. I have to turn cruise off if there is anyone behind me as I am afraid the car is going to slam on the braakes.

Update they have replaced the radar again on my car, but when they check the production date of the old radar, it was an older unit that they had replaced it with previously even though it was new. genesis is now buying their radars from a new company and the radar mounts differently and adjust differently. I have only done 150 miles or so, but it has not gone off and it was going off every time I drove the car on the same roads with the previous radar. I’ll get another few hundred miles on it and Update. The factory engineer had looked at the car and was unable to find anything. hard work by the dealership is what found the issue. if your car is at a dealership and they’re having trouble finding the issue they might want to call Jenkins Genesis of Ocala and speak to Adam the service manager he has been incredible through this whole thing.

Hi Scott. I am wondering if they ever fixed your faulty cruise/emergency braking. I also have the malfunction documented on video. I took it in and they did their typical 3 mile evaluation drive and of course the issue did not occur. The service advisor suggested I drive the car until the malfunction popped up and then come immediately to the dealership without shutting it off. I had to drive the car over 100 miles in order to get the malfunction to occur, but unfortunately when they scanned for codes, there were none. They've had it now for four days I doubt again if they're going to find anything. The most frustrating part is, I don't want any of the features that the stupid radar provides anyway. I find auto cruise control annoying and I sure as hell don't want the car deciding when to put the brakes on!

It appears to be fixed. I’ve done 500 miles and had my front window tint reinstalled . It’s been perfect. This is the second radar replacement. I spoke to the lead tech and the new radar was from a new manufacture and he felt the old one was not marked with the proper parameters. I would have your dealership call Jenkins Genesis of Ocala and speak to Adam the service manager.

Thanks for the update Scott. I told my customer service guy about the Florida service manager and frankly he didn't really seem too interested, some bullshit about it being in the US and we are in Canada. Anything they try to tell you about it being related to tint or 3m covering or whatever is probably BS because mine did it with none of that and 15 km on the odometer. My son is in the industry and suggested once they are finished sticking around here to call the genesis customer service support and get them into the conversation. Glad to hear yours is fixed. Thanks again for the update.
