  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm curious about the differential fluid change which I just had done by the dealer for just over $600 (Cdn), about $440 US. How much fluid did it take? The TSB on the bad differentials suggested 2 quarts. The dealer charged me for 3 bottles at $111.65 (Cdn) each which is about $81 per bottle. I know the markup on this oil is outrageous, but I was interested in determining whether I was ripped off by the quantity they claimed to use.

Curious as I also have a '21 3.5.
Did you see any discoloration and/or metal shavings?
Have you noticed any smoother shifting &/or driveline quietness?

I did not see any metal shavings on the drainplug (pictures attached). I asked for and was given a small jar of the drained fluid which was essentially black and very thick, like licorice yoghurt (if it came in that flavor) in appearance. I haven't had it analyzed. I really haven't noticed any change in the vehicle but did it as a matter of caution.

This is what I used. 3 liter bottles was perfect for both the front and rear differentials. You’ll need a 24mm socket with a breaker bar, a 10 mm Allen key and about 30 min to do both. On the front removed the tire and a little access panel for ease.

I have to say after all new fluids I’ve noticed when in sport mode 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd gear changes don’t seem to lag as much.

So a total of 3 liters did both diffs? And they charged me for 3 liters for just the rear. Scam.

Here she is all cleaned up. I bought her in February 2021. Done all her maintenance myself.

An update to my earlier post about being charged for 3 bottles (quarts) of differential fluid by the dealership for a fluid change when the capacity is only 1.35 quarts. The belated response from the service manager was that they used the extra bottle to "flush" the diff. While I have my suspicions about that (as I don't think it happened and it would be ineffectual anyway), they accepted my position that I had not requested a flush and credited me for the 3rd bottle. Unfortunately, it seem you have to look skeptically at everything that's done to your Genesis, whether they are charging you for it or not.
