  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So instead of piggy back on an old thread, I'll start a new one with the info.

Friday last week, I received a snail mail from Hyundai telling me that I am qualify for a free map upgrade. I called the dealership asking them about it. They told me that the campaign started Monday, however, they haven't received the map yet. They said that it would take them couple more days before the package would be here to do the upgrade. Since mine probably be the first one to get it done, they said to expect 3+ hours for the upgrade.

I own a 2010 V8 with tech.

what ver. nav. software does your car have now?

last time I checked it was 2009.

I have a 2011 4.6. I called Hyundai to ask why some owners received complimentary letters for map updates and others did not. No answer. I complained and they sent me a certificate for $75 to use in any service dept. I got the update done at a dealership (it took about six hours) and they charged $99 for the upgrade from MnSoft and $75 labor for installation. I was pretty satisfied with this, but then I noticed that points of interest such as restaurants, which have been out of business for six years, were still showing up after the update. I then checked some businesses that are about two years old and they are not even showing up. I called MnSoft and complained. They told me they can't take closed businesses out of their system and the new one take over two years to show up.

This is totally ridiculous and unacceptable. What good is a map system that you cannot rely on? I love my car and have had no other issues with it, but this is crazy. I could buy a Garmin Nuvi with lifetime free map updates for about $100. Instead I buy a $40K car that shows me incorrect information. Anyone else?

I need to make friends with someone in my local dealership - all you need is to get your hands on the latest map cd... why installing some stuff from a CD is worth $75 is beyond me!

Not to mention paying a Benjamin for the software.

Sorry for your troubles there, Porkchop. You Portuguese, by any chance? Figured I'd ask.

My 2012 nav update for my Mercedes was 249.00 and that was for only the dvd. If we drive luxury cars then some things are going to be expensive, it goes with the territory.

I'm ok with paying the $ for the map update, but it should be at least as accurate as a Garmin or Tomtom. I get 4x updates a year from Garmin and each one contains over 300k updates on average according to a representative I spoke with at Garmin. According to MapNSoft's own site there are approximately 1 million changes a year to roads/poi's etc. when you get your update. Also because these updates are done 4x/yr vs. once a year the updates take 30-40 minutes to complete instead of multiple hours with my car running to spin some DVD's around. The way MapNSoft does updates is slow and very prone to failure and yet it costs $249 a year to keep it "up to date"

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
hey Ruissimo, no not Portuguese.
And Homeofstone, let me clarify my issue: I think the updates are expensive; I wouldn't mind that so much if they WORKED.

Ah... thought you were. Common screen name for Portuguese-Americans.

XD

I have complained very little about the navigation system in the Tech package because I have learned to adapt to its shortcomings and have other workaround solutions if needed.

But since getting Volvo's second free navigation/software update since October 2011, I will finally register my disgust with Hyundai. These well documented packages just show up
In the mail, complete with two CDs. They install while you drive. Two hours update time, shut the car down if you have to - resume, no glitches, no apologies, and no horsesxxt. When you're done, you have updated maps and improvements in system speed and functionality. Hyundai, wake up to the inexpensive touches that buy customer loyalty!

To make y'all feel better, I can barely use my navigation. My voice commands don't work and then lock up my system. I have to visit the dealer. So those with working nav systems are light years ahead of me....

Inexcusable!

I was about to go online with the company who manufactures the DVD that runs my Nav system (2009 Genesis 4.6 V8) and visited this site just to get the info. After reading all the angry negative comments, I think I'll just put up with what I have.
Has ANYONE successfully updated the Hyundai Nav system ??

Many have reported satisfactory results with the update on the older thread below. Note that the thread below isn't in regards to the latest NAV update version available.

I have the April 2010 version, which is better then what the car came with, and I'm satisfied.

Like I said earlier, my biggest issue, aside from price and time of installation, is that the updates don't seem to do ANYTHING.
