  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey everyone.

I've been posting here for a while, current owner of a 2013 Genesis 5.0 and I love it.

Getting close to 90k miles and my warranty goes to 100k so I will be selling/trading soon to upgrade.

Considered a C63 AMG S, a few different M3/M5s, but at the end of the day the more practical move is to pick up a newer Genesis.

I want the 5.0, and from what I've seen, the 2015-2016 5.0 is still a thing with the upgraded body and badging (amongst other things), and then the 2017-2018 G80 Ultimate 5.0.

Is that right?

Did the 5.0 end in 2018 and everything is now either the 3.3T or 2.0?

I'm quite confused on what years and what verbiage I need to do to get a newer 5.0 as I find that I end up confusing the search engines.

If anyone can provide some input on that I would greatly appreciate it!

No, the G80 V8 did not end in ‘18. You are confused because the G70 does not offer a V8 option.

Was it not a G80 until 2017 though?
I don’t have a clue what you are asking. However, if you want to buy a used G80 V8 (‘17-‘20) there are plenty available. The V8 option is not available in any vehicle in 2021 Genesis line.

My problem is with how to search model years.

From what I see, there is no G80 until 2017, so before that for years 2015 - 2016 was it just called a Genesis 5.0 or was is still the Hyundai Genesis 5.0?

Yes, it was a Hyundai Genesis. It was spun off as a separate company with the 2017 model year and became the Genesis G80.

The 5.0 engine is very nice and has plenty of power. When new, the up charge was in the range of $5k more. If you have not yet, drive the 3.8 and see how you like it. I had a 2015 and now a 2018 and for me, it has plenty of power and I could not justify the cost of the bigger engine. If I was still 25 I would have insisted on the 5.0. Decades later, not so much.

Either way, it is a great highway cruiser and I've often done 800+ mile days with ease.
