  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I just bought a 2015 Genesis sedan with 3.8, HTrac, and Ultimate package. It has 42K miles on it. After driving it for a month I feel like something is not right. When accelerating from a stop the acceleration seems very poor at lower RPM. I also hear the engine like tapping or something. I can't describe the sound very well but it feels like the engine is revving faster than it is accelerating. I thought maybe the mufflers were damaged but I took it to a muffler shop and they said the underside of the car is pristine. It is a bad experience driving it. I have to hit the accelerator hard (higher RPM) to get it to kick in. My older Genesis had a much smoother and more powerful feel off the line.

Is the 2015 just that much heavier? The car does well accelerating at higher speeds but from a stop the engine sounds like I am driving a 4 cylinder Corolla.

Would love to hear your thoughts/ideas.

Does not sound right. I had the same model and now the 2018 equal. No noise, smooth acceleration. If you have warranty, get it checked out by the dealer. If not get a good independent shop. It is a heavy car but it still has pretty good pickup. Some engines do have a little tapping on start up but goes away.

Maybe pinging? Are you using quality fuel?

Maybe it depends on what you’re used to. I thought the V6 was fine, but I got the 5.0 in the end. I think if I drove the 3.8 I would think it was slow.
