  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Connected Services going away in December 2022

A couple days ago I noticed Bluelink was wasn't working when I started the car (Bluelink logo had red cross through it). I shrugged it off as a temporary outage, which it turned out to be, but I also noticed that Android Auto wouldn't launch. I turned the car off and back on again and still the same.

I got home about 40 minutes later and still no Bluelink or AA. I started to worry that they shut down 3G early, but even worse, that maybe the head unit won't launch AA without a Bluelink signal. The next morning I started the car up again and Bluelink and AA worked normally.

Anyone know if AA on the G80 8" head unit won't work if there's no Bluelink signal?

From what I've heard on the Genesis Gxx models, Android auto should work without Connected Services. But that would really be unfortunate if it didn't!

Can you tell us which car you have, I think the term Bluelink was used on the <17 year model Hyundai Genesis. Better yet, add your car to your signature line in your profile.

So, after I sold my G80 I contacted Genesis Connected Service and told them I had sold the G80 and wanted a refund for the Connected Services I subscribed to a few weeks before they emailed me to tell me it wouldn't work after December 2022. They started to explain that it was all Verizon's fault, and I stopped the agent from continuing with her script and said, just refund the charge. She agreed. Today I get not one but 3 emails encouraging me to come back. Here's a sample.Genesis Connected Services_001.webp

Each service is considered a separate subscription.
I get a separate email for payment for each service. Same I assume with the automated email for cancelations. But maybe they really want you back badly.
Good luck with your GMC.
I parked next to one at the grocery store the other day and thought of this post.

What price do you see, I don't see any price on that amazon link, also the amazon one is 4616 vs mine which is 4816. Dealer said their cost was ~$600 CAD included 2 remotes.

Btw one of the remote key is slightly taller than other for whatever reason. He highlighted this to me when I asked how do I know which one is driver 1 key and which one is Driver 2 key. For those who brought this car new, does the Keyfob say which key is for which driver?
Few more updates on this, the started locks the car before starting it. Also the starter can be used to shut down car by pressing the button again, this is very nice. This feature was missing in my previous remote starter in my other car.

To me remote function isn’t as useful in the winter, because it puts the temp at 72, which isn’t warm enough in the winter time. An issue for anyone else?
Currently driving the 2022 g80 and I read somewhere on the settings or instructions that the car will automatically set the previous temperature settings when you use the keys fob

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Yes, of course it will. It can determine the route all by itself, which is what it is already doing for people like me that did not continue that part of the Blue-Link service. It will not be able to factor traffic in, assuming that the cloud service actually was doing that.
Actually I have a 2015, and even without an active Blue link subscription, it was suggesting alternate routes based on traffic

Cool, good to know. I dropped my XM subscription, so no traffic info for me. I did see some traffic accident info the last time I drove through New Orleans. I guess that must have come from the FM radio.

Nice, guess the 2021 GV80 doesn’t but wish it did!

For those who haven't seen it.

IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT YOUR GENESIS CONNECTED SERVICES

Dear ,
We want to inform you how upcoming third-party cellular network changes will impact your access to Genesis Connected Services features in your 2018 GENESIS GENESIS G80.
The Genesis Connected Services device in your vehicle requires a 3G CDMA cellular network to access Genesis Connected Services1,2. These cellular networks are maintained by wireless service providers outside the control of Genesis. Due to changes in telecommunications technology over time, the wireless service provider of the network enabling the use of your Genesis Connected Services device has announced that it will discontinue 3G CDMA network service by December 31, 20222.
As a consequence, after December 31, 2022, we regret that your Genesis Connected Services device will become inactive as a result of the network discontinuation and access to connected services will be unavailable2. We have adjusted our Service Plans to allow affected Genesis Connected Services customers to have the maximum duration of service until the network discontinuation. Therefore, annual subscription renewals for Genesis Connected Services will no longer be available in 2022 and will automatically renew to a Service Plan with month-to-month billing in order to access Genesis Connected Services on your vehicle through December 31, 2022, unless you choose to cancel. The annual term pricing will not change as a result of this transition to month-to-month subscriptions3 and this change will take affect based on your current Genesis Connected Services annual plan renewal date.

What this means for annual Subscribers who renewed anytime in 2021:
  • If you are currently in an annual subscription and chose to renew in 2021, you were renewed for one additional annual term. Your service will remain active until the end of your annual term, at which point you will have the option to continue services on a monthly basis until December 31, 2022.
What this means for monthly Subscribers:
  • If you are already on monthly billing, your subscription will continue until the end of the final network date as described above.
What this means for Trial Customers:
  • If you are currently in a trial subscription and would like to purchase a subscription to continue service after your trial has expired, you will be able to do so on a monthly basis until services end on December 31, 2022.
All Customers
If you have any questions, please contact us at 1-844-340-9741. Thank you for being a valued Genesis Connected Services customer.

Respectfully,
Genesis Motor America

  1. All Genesis Connected Services will deactivate, including safety and security features such as: Automatic Crash Notification (ACN), SOS Emergency Assistance, Road Side Assistance, and Stolen Vehicle Tracking.
  2. Genesis Connected Services are dependent upon the telematics device being in operative condition, cellular connection availability (including available wireless service provider with coverage, network capacity, reception, and compatible technology), navigation map data and GPS satellite signal reception, all of which can limit the ability to reach either Genesis Connected Services Customer Care or receive support. On December 31, 2022, Verizon Communications, the wireless service provider enabling the use of your Genesis Connected Services device, will discontinue 3G CDMA network service. Terms and conditions of your Genesis Connected Services Agreement apply. See owners.genesis.com/us/en/connected-services-agreement-terms-and-conditions.html for complete terms and conditions.
  3. Monthly full retail renewal price for annual subscribers will be directly proportional to the current annual rate: Connected Care at $8.25, Connected Care + Remote or Connected Care + Guidance at $16.50, and Connected Care + Remote + Guidance at $24.75. Price excludes applicable fees and taxes. See your Genesis Connected Services Subscription Agreement and owners.genesis.com/us/en/connected-services-agreement-terms-and-conditions.html for complete terms and conditions.
Does this affect all years?

Does this affect all years?
For G80s, it seems to be higher end 2019s and earlier. Like, my base 2019 with the Gen 5 radio is not affected, but a 2019 Sport is affected. So up to 2019 will no longer work, but 2020 and higher are okay.

I wonder if there will be a class action lawsuit made about this.

Maybe, and in ten years we get a $4 settlement while lawyers get millions. I'd rather have a fix now. A plug in modem of some sort would be nice.

I've not cashed the check from the ATT class action suit yet. It is 25 cents. . I'll probably buy some Apple or Tesla stock with it.

Anyone get the email this morning saying Genesis Connected Services is being discontinued this December due to Verizon dropping 3g network coverage? Guess I'll start exploring remote start options. I will miss the monthly vehicle reports though.
Yes, message received here. Own 2017 G80-5.0 and am NOT pleased. Friend w/Audi (2018) will be getting upgrade to G4/5?. Genesis needs to consider owner base and offer something.

I have been part of a few class action lawsuits. Only one that wasn't at least $100 was the latest one against Google that was I think 0.25. The last one against Google about the pixel phones I got $550.

If there is any class action lawsuit, I think we are all hoping for a modem fix/replacement rather than a little pocket change.

Based on some of the other threads there are 3rd party options that provide the same GCS functions, it would be nice if they offer one and allow effected owners to get one installed on Genesis' dime. If the owner wants an upgrade they pay the extra.
