  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Anyone get the email this morning saying Genesis Connected Services is being discontinued this December due to Verizon dropping 3g network coverage? Guess I'll start exploring remote start options. I will miss the monthly vehicle reports though.

For those who haven't seen it.

IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT YOUR GENESIS CONNECTED SERVICES

Dear ,
We want to inform you how upcoming third-party cellular network changes will impact your access to Genesis Connected Services features in your 2018 GENESIS GENESIS G80.
The Genesis Connected Services device in your vehicle requires a 3G CDMA cellular network to access Genesis Connected Services1,2. These cellular networks are maintained by wireless service providers outside the control of Genesis. Due to changes in telecommunications technology over time, the wireless service provider of the network enabling the use of your Genesis Connected Services device has announced that it will discontinue 3G CDMA network service by December 31, 20222.
As a consequence, after December 31, 2022, we regret that your Genesis Connected Services device will become inactive as a result of the network discontinuation and access to connected services will be unavailable2. We have adjusted our Service Plans to allow affected Genesis Connected Services customers to have the maximum duration of service until the network discontinuation. Therefore, annual subscription renewals for Genesis Connected Services will no longer be available in 2022 and will automatically renew to a Service Plan with month-to-month billing in order to access Genesis Connected Services on your vehicle through December 31, 2022, unless you choose to cancel. The annual term pricing will not change as a result of this transition to month-to-month subscriptions3 and this change will take affect based on your current Genesis Connected Services annual plan renewal date.

What this means for annual Subscribers who renewed anytime in 2021:
  • If you are currently in an annual subscription and chose to renew in 2021, you were renewed for one additional annual term. Your service will remain active until the end of your annual term, at which point you will have the option to continue services on a monthly basis until December 31, 2022.
What this means for monthly Subscribers:
  • If you are already on monthly billing, your subscription will continue until the end of the final network date as described above.
What this means for Trial Customers:
  • If you are currently in a trial subscription and would like to purchase a subscription to continue service after your trial has expired, you will be able to do so on a monthly basis until services end on December 31, 2022.
All Customers
If you have any questions, please contact us at 1-844-340-9741. Thank you for being a valued Genesis Connected Services customer.

Respectfully,
Genesis Motor America

  1. All Genesis Connected Services will deactivate, including safety and security features such as: Automatic Crash Notification (ACN), SOS Emergency Assistance, Road Side Assistance, and Stolen Vehicle Tracking.
  2. Genesis Connected Services are dependent upon the telematics device being in operative condition, cellular connection availability (including available wireless service provider with coverage, network capacity, reception, and compatible technology), navigation map data and GPS satellite signal reception, all of which can limit the ability to reach either Genesis Connected Services Customer Care or receive support. On December 31, 2022, Verizon Communications, the wireless service provider enabling the use of your Genesis Connected Services device, will discontinue 3G CDMA network service. Terms and conditions of your Genesis Connected Services Agreement apply. See owners.genesis.com/us/en/connected-services-agreement-terms-and-conditions.html for complete terms and conditions.
  3. Monthly full retail renewal price for annual subscribers will be directly proportional to the current annual rate: Connected Care at $8.25, Connected Care + Remote or Connected Care + Guidance at $16.50, and Connected Care + Remote + Guidance at $24.75. Price excludes applicable fees and taxes. See your Genesis Connected Services Subscription Agreement and owners.genesis.com/us/en/connected-services-agreement-terms-and-conditions.html for complete terms and conditions.

Exactly what, other than remote start and app-related functions will stop working?

Yes, got this too, makes me angry!

Does this impact ALL model years across the board, or are there possibly newer chipsets in newer models? I have a 2020 G80 Sport.

354 days until you find out where you stand!

CDMA or GSM = 3G
LTE = 4G

Any device/system that only supports 3G (2019 G80) will cease to work after the 3G network is decommissioned (ETA Dec 2022).

Any device/system that supports LTE/4G (2021 GV80 + 2020 G80) will continue to work on cell networks until the 4G networks are shutdown (TBD/future).

;)
In case you are considering robbing a bank/liquor store in the future ...
3G only cars will no longer be able to remotely shutdown/demobilized.
;)

Pretty annoying they sold a 2019 car with only 3G service, seems pretty shortsighted given the projected timeline for 3G sunset at that point.

Would be nice if some sort of upgrade path existed, but I'm not gonna hold my breath.

It is very poor planning and I’m very disappointed. But what would be total bullsh*t if they don’t offer some way to upgrade to 4G like some other manufacturers. (Tesla, Subaru and GM) to name a few. How much does this lower the value of the car ?

Just visualize the smiling salesman on the used car lot showing off your trade in to a prospect. "This car comes with a remote start feature that does not work as well as other outdated unusable technology"

I bought my 2019 Genesis G80 new in January 2019. I switched from Cadillac and thought I made a good move. I like four door sedans rather than crossovers. Well, I was wrong. First, we all went through months of issues where Genesis blamed XM for issues with the XM operation and Apple CarPlay. I never liked the fact that I had to use an app to start the car and couldn't use the key fob if I were close enough like I could with my GM vehicles. The app wasn't that responsive but was handy if I was in a building and needed to heat the car up for a bit before I left. And recently they've made some improvements to the app that I like. Now, this connected service is going away because they put together a new car with technology they knew was ending within a few years and there was no means to upgrade it. My 2018 GMC Sierra has OnStar and just got an over the air software update to prepare for the 3G changes. OnStar/GM has been preparing for this since the 2016 models. A few of my neighbors have Lincolns. One with a 2017 Lincoln got a notice that their car had a 3G modem, but that Lincoln could upgrade it for about $500. And my 3-year-old Genesis with less than 6,000 miles on it will just lose a feature because of poor design/planning. Guess what manufacturer's cars I won't be buying in the future?

Sure did. Complete BS too. My question is this just for the older vehicles? Mine is a 2015. If it is for ALL, then I'll be trading mine in for another brand. BOO!

I've decided to go 3rd party with the remote starters. There are a few nice ones I've already scoped out which duplicate most of what I use connected services for. Some installers can also add missing features like turning the seat warmers/coolers on when starting the vehicle. Plus control with your fob or an app.

Please share what you choose or some of the options you decided between when you finally decide. Unfortunately I can’t trade in my vehicle like others and also have a 2021 so need to mentally start preparing for the possibility to have to do the same in the future for that car.

I am interested in learning more about this, what brand are you looking at, Viper? Are these subscription services?
thanks.

Assuming the in car SOS/blue link will still function? Can’t use the alert settings (curfew, speed alert, valet, geofencing) anymore if wanted to give the car to your kids?

Like the others I am also waiting for you to inform us with, what your research turned up. Thanks in advance.

All: no. Your 2015 (and my 2018): yes.
