  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Connected Services going away in December 2022

Tried to follow all the discussion but its pretty lengthy. I Have a 2016 3.8 awd tech package genesis. Other than blue link connectivity and the sos feature, what other features will I lose with 3g going away?

Whatever you could do from the Genesis Mobile app and Traffic and weather information I believe.

traffic and weather, at least on my car are by Sirius.. No reason they should go away.

Thanx. It is what I kinda expected since I did not renew my blue link 1 and 2 packages anyhow last time.
Remote start and temp control were the most significant loss for me personally.

After getting a new radio with the updated Map, it no longer shows LTE. It now shows a "B" with the signal strength.

I wouldn't be renewing that anyway.

Anyone get the email this morning saying Genesis Connected Services is being discontinued this December due to Verizon dropping 3g network coverage? Guess I'll start exploring remote start options. I will miss the monthly vehicle reports though.
Irritates me a lot. Car manufacturers knew that this was coming years ago yet did nothing up to around 2018. Many of the safety features that I bought my 2016 Genesis for will be gone. My wife got a letter on her 2015 Subaru Outback and Subaru indicated that it was woking on a fix, and I think(not positive) that a friend with a GM vehicle said the same thing. Will definitely take this into consideration on my next vehicle.

I bought my 2019 Genesis G80 new in January 2019. I switched from Cadillac and thought I made a good move. I like four door sedans rather than crossovers. Well, I was wrong. First, we all went through months of issues where Genesis blamed XM for issues with the XM operation and Apple CarPlay. I never liked the fact that I had to use an app to start the car and couldn't use the key fob if I were close enough like I could with my GM vehicles. The app wasn't that responsive but was handy if I was in a building and needed to heat the car up for a bit before I left. And recently they've made some improvements to the app that I like. Now, this connected service is going away because they put together a new car with technology they knew was ending within a few years and there was no means to upgrade it. My 2018 GMC Sierra has OnStar and just got an over the air software update to prepare for the 3G changes. OnStar/GM has been preparing for this since the 2016 models. A few of my neighbors have Lincolns. One with a 2017 Lincoln got a notice that their car had a 3G modem, but that Lincoln could upgrade it for about $500. And my 3-year-old Genesis with less than 6,000 miles on it will just lose a feature because of poor design/planning. Guess what manufacturer's cars I won't be buying in the future?
I also own a 2019 Genesis G80. I traded in a 2015 Genesis for it, after some numerous electrical issues with that--I was hoping the bugs were going worked out with the 2019 model year. This latest thing with Genesis Connected Care is basically the straw that broke the camel's back with me. I bought a brand new 3.8 with the "Sport Trim" package, which featured copper colored trim. The trim around the windows started deteriorating almost immediately, the fix for that was to have the dealership buff off the top coating on the trim. The appearance of the grill is degrading rapidly. The gray inserts in the front emblem are splitting and peeling. The rear window shade constantly gets stuck halfway up--I've been told that is some sort of relay problem. I pulled out the "Connected Services" manual today, and sure enough, in a small paragraph at bottom of the welcome page is the disclaimer that when the 3G network is taken down, Connected Care services will no longer function in the car. So, that's it for me. As a side note, I also have a 2018 G90--but it is not impacted by the 3G networks being taken down, as it has a different modem. I'm going to start looking at the Lexus lineup, or the Infiniti models and make a decision. The G80 will paid off in a year, so I'm planning on trading it in shortly after the last payment. I'll keep the G90 for a few more years, or until its Connected Care services also get stripped away. Fool me once, shame on you--fool me again, shame on me. No more Genesis cars are in my future.

Hard to disagree with any of that. Genesis has been a pretty big disappointment in my book.
I'm guessing we'll move it on in the next year if supply of cars ever gets back to normal.

I bought my g80 used, albeit from a Genesis dealer. The connected services were not a factor in my purchase decision, but more of a bonus. The only feature i consistently use is remote start, so the loss of it truly motivates me to just get a 3rd party solution with more features anyway.

What 3rd party options are available?

Is Genesis planning to do anything for us owners with 3G head units in our vehicles? Even if they charged a nominal fee to replace the sim chip in the unit, I think most of us would do it. At least they should give us that option.

There's a lot more to it than changing a sim chip.
So far, they have said no.

I believe if enough of us protest vigorously, and publicly, we can get them to offer a work around. Most of us would pay for the opportunity.

As far as I am aware, at the current time, Genesis has no plans to do anything. The problem is the modems are unable to be changed to use anything other than the 3G network, there is no software update they can implement--Genesis knew that the 3G network was being taken down at the time they were building these cars--but they kept on installing the 3G modems anyway to save money.

No one told me about this issue when I paid $50K for the car--Was I expected to have read the entire owner's manual prior to purchasing the car? I am furious. This was deceptive and wrong. Not the way to keep customers, that's for sure. No more Genesis cars are in my future. I've given them plenty of chances and I'm done making allowances for them. They blew it.

I checked there site and Genesis or Hyundai Genesis isn’t on the list of vehicles it’s compatible with.
I checked best buy and with my local installer who said its compatible. The compustar site listed the 2015 Hyundai Genesis, which is pretty much the same car as our 2017-2019 g80s.
