  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Connected Services going away in December 2022

The terms of service do clearly state that it may be discontinued at any time.
Was that explained to you at purchase or not until you received notice?

Since the connected services were a selling point I don't believe they have the legal right to discontinue it? I just purchased my lease in November and was solicited to continue with the service for a monthly fee. Now I find out by email yesterday that it's being discontinued. There should be a class action suit against this. They have the technology to upgrade but rather rip us off instead of spending money. Now I regret buying my lease.
They did not make the choice to discontinue it. Phone companies did. Genesis has no control over that.

Do they have the technology to upgrade? I don't know. I would have hoped they could but the modem is integrated in the head unit that was not manufactured by Genesis. Easy to say they can but give specifics and costs, not just unfounded claims.

We don’t even know what it takes to upgrade. Different makes use different hardware and connect things differently. Maybe the technology they need is illustrated below.

Is On Star still around?

Compustar alarm and remote starter with Drone Mobile. Specific model depends on the type of remote you want and if it's 1 way or 2way.
I can remote start from the oem Genesis fob or the drone mobile app.
I have breadcrumbs and location tracking.
Geofencing and speed alerts I have as well buy haven't used yet.
You cannot set your temp remotely unless you pay for an additional module.
I just set my temp to Auto in the car and it returns to that last temp setting when starting.
Hi. I have a 19 g80 sport that is being affected by the 3g discontinuation. Any idea what cost of the Compustar unit and Drone Mobile cost and to have it installed? I live in the snowbelt of the Northeast and the remote start is not a function, i would like to lose.........

I have no idea. OnStar is not Genesis services and uses different hardware.

My old flip phone does not work any more either but Motorola is still around. Should I sue them?

Depends on your installer. Mine was about $800, but I added a perimeter alarm which increased my price. Another user got his installed nearly half that.
First 30 days of dronemobile are free then it's a subscription. Basic is about $5/month, premium about $11. I opted for premium.

I just found out about this 3G issue. I am so disappointed in Genesis that they aren't offering anything to resolve the problem. Why haven't they been working on this. I guess it's easier to take no responsibility and just blame Verizon. If this is how Genesis wants to treat their customers I guess I will be telling everyone I know to stay away from the brand. Should have bought the Lexus I was considering instead of my G80. FYI I have loved my G80 since the day I drove it off the lot, but this is an unforgivable way for Genesis to treat their customers.

This obviously is not a good comparison (flip phone vs luxury car).

So, these 3G transceivers take some amount of battery power as the car sits there. When the 3G service shuts off and the transceiver in the car can't find a signal anymore, will it consume more battery power looking for the signal, or will it quickly give up and consume less? Will there (can there) be any update to switch the transceiver off completely?

is It possible that the GMA website is “inaccurate“ where it reads:

AT YOUR SERVICE.

True luxury is about the complete experience. Designed around real needs and wants, respecting how you actually live. This is the Genesis Experience

BMW stopped supporting its connected services on my older model 5 series. No sos, no more map updates, no service scheduling from car. No recall, no solution.
Technology changes. Sometimes there's a bridge from the old to new. Sometimes there's a cliff.

Sure it is. The same technology obsolescence is what made them inoperable.

It is easy to get pissed off and sit at the keyboard and say Genesis should fix it. No one here knows what is involved in doing that or what has been tried. The modem is integrated in the head unit, not a quick plug in easily replaced. If anyone here has that simple solution I imagine Genesis engineering would like to know.

They don't put the 8 track players in them anymore either.

You are much more understanding than I could ever be. I am confident Genesis could resolve the problem at a reasonable cost. Instead of Genesis developing a fix during the last couple of years they decided to blame telecom companies and just hang their customers out to dry.

And what would be the factual basis for your confidence?

This will be my last post on this topic because I can't understand people defending Genesis's indefensible position (my opinion) on this issue. I feel like I am debating this problem with people that might have conflict of interest.

I am a retired r&d automotive engineer. The company I worked for worked with Hyundai/ Genesis on an experimental project. I based my comments solely on my experience working with their engineers. I am confident in their engineering skills. I have no direct knowledge of what would be required to fix the problem, but I think with a couple of years time and their engineer skills they could have come up with a cost effective solution.

Yeah I got the email. This is some serious BS not offering an upgrade path for those with 3G, they just say too bad and if you paid for a year then no $$ back?
