  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Considering 2015 5.0

On another subject, I have a rear window which won't roll up or down. 2015 CPO with 28k miles. Do you know if this is even covered?

Yes. It's covered. I had the same issue.

My wife was asking me if it can use regular gas. I have read premium only, and I also read that premium is optional. Basically if premium is optional I would imagine it pulls timing and you get a little worse power and mileage. Anyone have a definitive answer?

It's still over 400hp with regular gas. I've been using regular for 2 months. No issues

It is optional/ Some say little performance change and not worth paying for premium. Unless you drag race on Saturday night, of course.

This is from the manual
5.0 engine
Your new vehicle is designed to use
only unleaded fuel having an octane
number ((R+M)/2) of 87 (Research
Octane Number 91) or higher. For
improved vehicle performance, premium
unleaded fuel with an octane
number ((R+M)/2) of 91 (Research
Octane Number 96) or higher is recommended.
(Do not use methanol
blended fuels.)

LOL. I am also reluctant to use ACC in heavy traffic for a fear of rear ending someone if the system do not respond in time to a sudden stop. Atlanta drivers are very unpredictable.:)

The only time it gets sketchy if someone suddenly darts out from your lane and leaves a big gap then car speeds up and brakes harder than it should.

Otherwise in stop in go its fine super smooth.

I think it's a mere 406hp on 87, and 420 on 91. For the $15-20 I save per tank, I'll suffer through the lower HP ;)

Others say it is just a Starbucks coffee. Screw the high priced coffee, I like your way better and you can buy 50 bottles of wine a year with the savings.

LOL. It sucks that you have to settle with only 406hp by using 87 octane.:)

What the average gas mileage while using 87 octane in the 5.0?

I average around 19-20 mpg in mixed traffic when using 93 octane in my 2015 5.0.

Looking for opinions on this one from people with both suspension options. Do you feel that the car is way undersprung/underdamped? I don’t mind a smooth ride, but I don’t want that floaty feeling where the car drifts into another lane easily.

The last RWD V8 sedan I experienced was a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis as a rental many years ago. I would go to adjust the radio and find the thing had floated halfway into the other lane 😄. I would hope that even the non adaptive suspension on the Genesis would provide more control than that.

I do realize it is not a sports car. I have my Miata for when I want to attack twisty roads. That is part of the charm for me of getting the Genesis. One car would be a lightweight agile sportscar, and the other car in the garage would be a muscle sedan 😊

My 2015 5.0 is sprung just right. It is not too firm nor too soft. I like it that way. It is a cross between a BMW with the sport package and a Lexus GS non-sport package depending on the drive mode. Normal and ECO mode uses the same suspension setting and feels more like a Lexus GS around town. Sport mode feels more like a BMW 5 series with a sport package with my current Michelin Pilot A/S +3 tires, not the same level as the BMW but just as sporty considering the cost difference.
However, close enough to BMW sport handling to put a smile on my face when I want to have some fun .:)

Good question! The car says around 20mpg, but calculated at the pump it’s more like 18. I should try eco mode to see if that makes a difference

Every car I've owned with a computer giving mpg has been optimistic.

I do find it an interesting reference though. I have the 3.8 but I think what I've seen applies to most cars of this class. In cold weather a 2 mile trip will show about 10 mpg. Resetting it for the trip back home after a 15 minute stop it will be 14 mpg. The same trip in summer goes to 14 and 16. Once at operating temperature a few minutes it will be 20ish, even more on the highway.

We've always been told that short trips and cold weather affects mileage, but the computer sure shows it. If you have a short tip to work, don't expect much.

Does the car rev match downshifts when using the paddles?

Sorry for all the questions - we tend to keep cars for a long time, so I really like to know exactly what I’m getting into and talk to current owners.

Sounds about right. I just use trip the computer as my reference. I used to calculate mpg manually until trip computers became standard on cars.

I average 19-20mpg in ECO mode with 93 octane, but I do drive aggressively and idle in traffic a lot. When I drove more conservatively(very hard for me) I have gotten about 22-23mpg on the trip computer in ECO, but my usual mpg is 19-20 when I drive how I normally drive in ECO.

I am sure the mileage will go up for you in ECO mode.
