  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Considering a G70 - Canadian

I agree with this. Aug-Oct seems to be when most new cars are released, but often all new or significantly updated ones come out a bit sooner. I sometimes think they do that just to draw more attention to them so they don't get lost in the mix of all the other "new" cars on the lots.
My theory was stated above. Planning, designing, and manufacturing a new car is a significant project, and it is hard to know exactly when it will finished, tested, certified by EPA, etc. The last thing they want to do is to release a vehicle that has unresolved problems just to meet a deadline. So they plan on early or mid-year release in case the dates slip, so that even if they need more time it still gets released before year end.

how was the reception at the boundary store? when i went they had no units available. are you able to take a close look and have someone assist? and can you test drive on site? i always prefer going to a lot so i can view different trims/colours, etc.

When I arrived at the Genesis showroom nobody was there...but someone from the Hyundai dealer let me in to look at the G70. I made a test drive appointment after I got back to work. Today Genesis is bringing a 3.3T Sport to my office at 3 pm. Looking forward to the test drive.

For US customers interested in G70 options, the link below takes you to the Canadian Genesis website.

The top model MSRP (maybe Canada calls it something else) lists for $57,000 Canadian. Today's US price would be $43,183 according to my converter.

While it's hard to tell exactly, it looks like all the models have a grill similar to the US G70 Sport. There appear to be a lot more options in Canada verses the 2 packages available in the US

I'm wondering if the US Sport grill will show up on all next year's G80 and G90 models. To my mind, today's standard grill for the G80 and G90 seem dated compared to the G80 Sport.

At the Boundary location they aren't always there (as they drive to peeps requesting a test drive), but there were 2 to look at. A 3.3T and 2.0T. The Genesis "experience mgr." wasn't there when I went, but the Hyundai reception let me in for 10 mins to have a peek.

In Canada the 2018 G80 Sport sells for $62,000 CAD (including freight) and with your conversion that would be $46,971 in USD. How close is that to a brand new G80 Sport?

I think it is pretty clear the exchange rate isn't the number to go by when estimating what the G70 will cost in the US. I think the equivalent G70 Sport will be about $52-53K USD.

G80 Sport loaded in the US is $58,745 USD.

I already posted my math here before. All things I considered...my guesstimate on the G70 3.3T AWD loaded is $54,481 USD.

I knew the price and I totally agree with you. I am just trying to show the other guy that FX rates aren't a good indicator of what the car will cost since he made it sound like the loaded G70 Sport might only be ~$43K US. I think that would make many people happy, but it will unfortunately never happen.

If the CAD continues to perform as poor as it has recently, eventually our car prices will really start moving up across the board. But that takes time. When the CAD moved up to par and above compared to the USD we were technically overpaying for every car for years before the manufacturers started to narrow the range in prices. And then our dollar started going the other way.

Tesla is the only company I know that really seems to track the exchange to any degree. And it makes their cars brutally expensive here in Canada.

If the price of oil stays at current levels or a little higher, CAD will eventually recover some of its loss.

Waiting for a delivery date on my lease. They don't negotiate on price alright but I was able to negotiate a better trade in value. Yes I know all dealers low ball you so it I am not really getting any "deal". But mentally it made me feel better lol.

Pricing between Canada and the US has always been a hidden mystery, partly do to different equipment and regulations. That said, people in the US can at least get a gander at the Canadian G70 Sport by going to the Genesis Canadian website.

You'll need a Canadian postal code as well. I'm using A1A1A1.

And yes, the G70 Sport is listed for $57,5000 Canadian which today would convert to $43,310. Sounds like a great deal EXCEPT there would be problems with warranty work plus conversion to US standards in order to license a Canadian version in the US.

As has been explained in detail many time already, one cannot convert the CAD price to USD price. It doesn't work that way. The CAD has lost more than 25% of its value against the USD in the last 5 years (mostly due to crash in oil prices), and Hyundai is eating the difference in Canada. That is the way the auto business works.

When the USD bounces up an down versus the Korean Won, Hyundai doesn't change prices on cars imported from Korea and sold in the USA.
