  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Possible first time Hyundai owner here.

I am looking at the purchase of a Hyundai Equus and was wondering, as compared to say an Sonata, what kind of maintenance/repair costs are I looking at with an Equus. I have not owned vehicles in this class previously.

Thanks in advance.

Just a couple of "general" rules here...

1. The maintenance and repair costs for a car are most often proportional to the purchase price when new. If it costs twice as much as a Sonata when both were new, it will probably cost twice as much to keep it going.

2. The more features it has, the more it has to break/fail, sooner or later.

Of course, there are individual exceptions to both rules.

Honestly, the biggest cost will be if/when your air suspension fails. Hyundai patented the parts and they are quite expensive.

There are aftermarket alternatives, but not many.

I expect there will be a nominal 'Equus tax' on parts but since it shares many components from the Genesis, it shouldn't be too bad.

Everyone's experience is different. I haven't had any major problems outside of drivers mirror clip broke and door handle sensor. Something did cost 5k to fix but it was covered under warranty
