Considering Used 2011 4.6 68Kmiles

I've been eyeing genesis sedans for a while now but they have been outside my price range. I found a used 2011 4.6Lw/ tech for $11,000 with 68k miles at a ford dealer in Dallas area.

Been trying to read up on common issues and figured id ask you guys for opinions and things to consider. I'm on my mobile device and can't access FAQ and it's a windows phone so no app (assuming there is one)

Take the VIN to a Hyundai dealer (the one where you'll have it serviced) and ask a service writer to pull the complete vehicle service history. Make sure it's clean and complete. Verify that the brake recall was done and HECU unit replaced.

If the service writer won't do it, or it doesn't show complete/routine maintenance, then don't buy the car.

The car is almost certainly too old to be eligible for an extended Hyundai Protection Plan warranty, but ask them anyway just in case. If you can get one, do it. The extra $3 or $4k you'll spend will be worth it. Radar modules, head units, HECU units fail at a fairly high rate (see other threads on ABS Brake failure) and each fix will cost about $3k.

IMO you're far better off spending another $5k and buying a 2014 3.8 (about the same performance) and then getting an extended warranty when the car approaches 5/60.

Bottom line: Don't own one of these cars out of warranty unless you are willing to spend $3k here and there to replace failing "tech" parts.

FYI I put 213,000 miles on my 2011 4.6 with tech. I purchased it new in sept. 2010. The car only had one failure in all those miles which was the fuel tank gauge sending unit. I had all maintenance done per manual and had transmission fluid changed every 70,000 miles or so. IMO the 2011 4.6 is a very reliable car. I you purchase the car only use OEM oil filters to prevent possible engine damage by using after market cheap filters.
