  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

In overall brand report card, Genesis tied for 6th, and the 3rd ranked lux brand.

Based on how long of ownership? Can't believe BMW is #1. What about after like 5 years of ownership when the warranty is expired?

I don't follow CR too closely, but I think I've seen long-term reliability reports that are separate from this overall brand rating. According to the article this brand ranking also includes the road test, satisfaction, safety as well as reliability.

The other thing to keep in mind is that Genesis as a portion of the US car market, is tiny. So you can get some pretty wild swings in owner satisfaction from year to year as it only takes a few Genesis owners who also happen to subscribe to CR and who also bother to fill out their annual car survey (I do every year, but friends I know never do) to move the needle.

We’ll see how they land next year - based on our 1st (and last Genesis) experience - they’ll get an B+ on the car and F on the dealer network, pre-post sales, CS, and service.

Are you saying that you don’t think that CR tests for statistical significance?

Not according to their site. The sample size of Genesis cars that intersect with CR subscribers who also fill out the survey is too small. This is why you see such big swings in position with smaller manufacturers/brands from year to year (been looking at these for the last 10 years).

My wife has a 2017 BMW that she purchased in 2016 new. It's about 6 1/2 years old. She had a total of one issue with the car, tailgate would not auto close. That was the first year and it was fixed under warranty. The only thing the car has had done besides oil and filters is brake fluid replacement which they require very often for some odd reason and new tires. This is my one and only experience with BMW so it is a good one. She would give it 5 stars for reliability and so would I.
So far my Genesis is has been issue free so that would get a 5 star as well. But let's see what happens in another 5 years. I am hoping for the same. It seems with these cars, most issues seem to happen in the first year so I made that anyway.

Think CR's reliability rankings looks at 3 yr old models, altho they track reliability for longer than that.

Also, BMW has largely passed thru its powertrain issues and their infotainment/telematics is one of the better ones out there.
