I bought a 2015 CPO Tech with 22K miles 7 months ago. A few weeks after I bought it, I got stuck with it, it wouldn't start (wouldn't crank). It continued to occur. Long story short, After 6 visits throwing various parts at it (per tech line) to 3 Hyundai dealers, twice towed in, they replaced the starter and fixed the problem. The dealer kept asking tech/warranty for approval for a starter and Hyundai warranty folks declined and took the cheap way out over and over again, because the starter was an expensive repair. New starter installed about 1 month ago. Last week, the head unit (radio) stops working (GPS, amp, backup camera, Sirius). Dealer had it warrantied and Hyundai sends a remanufactured unit to replace. Dealer installs it, and it too, does not work. Dealer says Hyundai wont replace it with a new one ($$$$) and we will continue to have problems with a remanufactured unit. Oh, 3 sets of front turn signal bulbs needed replacing during this time too. Numerous calls to Hyundai customer care in California with case managers who don't return calls or emails, sent up to corporate (no response), even Genesis Motors (who won't assist). What did I expect them to do? Keep the car at the dealership as long as needed to repair the car properly, with new parts, and give me a loaner car. An Accent would have been fine. Customer care says, No can do. Selling dealer was terrific, no complaints there just no support from Hyundai. Great, great driving car by the way. Just unreliable, frequent maintenance and undependable. Trading it in next week, going back to Lexus.

Hate to see you go, but I understand. I can't stand bad customer service. If you have a twitter account you might posting there about the customer service experience from their corporate office. See if you get a decent response to your issue then.

WOW. I have an 2015 model with over 60k miles and have not had any such issues with my car. However, I do charge my battery every week due to swapping cars often so that may be why I do not have many electrical issues.

I have noticed that newer cars seem to have more electrical issues that is battery related, even my wife's Lexus RX350 AWD. If she does not drive the RX350 often the battery voltage gets low and it has some issues with starting or dash lights. When I charge the battery the issues go away.

My old Nissan/Infiniti vehicles had the same issues with battery voltage and glitchy tech.

I am sure that your issues are originating from a bad battery or alternator. Well, anyway good luck on your new ride.:)

had the same issue on my 2015 with the starter. they tried selling me a $300 AGM battery instead of fixing the starter under warranty. still had the problem. then warranty replaced the starter and not an issue in 5 months since.

Yeah I'm with you here. I've had a couple of issues since purchase, one where it had to be flat bedded (fuel module), then ongoing issues with the USB port (works then it doesn't, already cost me around $250 to deal with and still not repaired). Hopefully this will be all the problems I run into. But I'm not really confident with this car. I was looking at ordering a Model 3 or buying a slightly used Jag XJL, but decided against the Jag because I was worried about reliability. I might have to revisit the prospect of a new car soon - less than 3 months from purchase.

After owning three Lexus vehicles, two Mercedes, a host of Toyotas, two Acuras and two Hondas, I've come to the conclusion the dealers and parent company don't really have their shit together. It just looks bad to me and seems as if there are going to be problems ahead. I bought one of the first LS400s in the US and they bent over backwards to fix anything and everything, they never gave me a problem.

Hey guys,
Its pretty disappointing to hear that Hyundai customer care on your side of the world are pricks! I dunno if there are other Genesis owners from Australia here, but I have owned my 2G 2015 Genesis DH with Ultimate Pack, since it was released here in Western Australia. Bought it @ 3kms, was only a month old/ demo model and I haven't had any problems in the entire time I've owned it! My car also came with 5 Year Hyundai iCare Servicing, which basically means I don't pay anything for scheduled servicing, as long as I stay within the guidelines of the warranty.
Hyundai Australia have been awesome, they even replaced the tyres a few months after I bought it, as they were faulty.
To date, I still have not paid a cent towards servicing and they even provide me with another demo genesis or nice sonata, if I need another car when I take it in.
2.5 years on, my Gen is doing well and still beats these newer euros! Car is about to get the 60,000km scheduled service, which will see it get the apple CarPlay upgrade to the entertainment system and latest map and video codec updates

unfortunately if there is a reman part available warranty won't give you a new part, the logic is that your car isn't new so a new part isn't needed, only a certified reman part.

only time a new part comes is if there is no inventory of reman parts. usually that only occurs within the first year or so after production of a new model.

Well the first problem was; you bought a used CPO car. You don't have a loaner or concierge service with a used vehicle. You have to purchase new for that. So, Hyundai was right about not providing a loaner. Get a rental and let them fix what is needed, then quite worrying about it. You're cover for 100K.

Lexus, good luck with them if it's a used vehicle. You'll have to pay for an extended warranty from them and you better consider it also. They're much more expensive to repair. Last one we had was an fully loaded RCF so I'm speaking from experience.

My '15 Ultimate has been in the shop probably a dozen times. It would have been many more times but I tend to let the issues stack up before I take the car in, and I also ignore several smaller issues because I have to choose my battles. My service adviser and the service manager have both told me that the 2015 model year is prone to excessive reliability issues. Evidently Hyundai/Genesis has addressed these in newer models. The 2018 G80 loaner I've gotten a few times is 10x the car compared to mine. Such a waste of 3 years of my car-owning life that I'll never get back. It's almost a nice car.

I've had problematic cars in the past. I bought a brand new 2002 CLK 55 and that car was constantly in the shop for one thing or another during the four years I had it. Gorgeous car, very powerful, great service experience but lots of issues. That was my last Mercedes. This thing is stacking up to be V2.0 of that vehicle. I have also bought slightly used, three and four year old cars which have given me zero, nada, issues. Mostly Toyota (Highlander and a Prius), Honda (Prelude, Acura TL, Acura NSX) and one Dodge product (Hemi Ram). All of those were bulletproof, no issues whatsoever. Three Lexus vehicles, one of which was used and gave me a few small issues but the dealer went out of their way to resolve. I'm going to chalk this Genesis up as an experiment that has not yet gone bad but is looking that way. My issue being with the service network thus far. If they want to position this as a luxury vehicle, the service experience needs to be up to standard - mine has not been, at least from the perspective of someone who has lived with various "luxury" brands in the past. I have no problem renting a car for the day if they do not have a loaner.

My 2015 is under the remainder of the factory warranty for another year or so but I find the shorter electronics warranty to be kind of silly, especially since the thing is one big computer. I do not care to lease cars, so buying new seems to be a waste of money for me. They need to stand behind their electronics, or at least make the warranty run concurrent with the warranty on the rest of the car.

I will say I really like the car otherwise, especially the way it looks, I just wish it wasn't so temperamental. Hopefully the issues I've addressed recently are the extent of it and nothing else pops up.

first model year of a new car or a new generation is always problematic. I have owned several wanting to be "that guy" that got one of the first. All of them had a lot of problems that got sorted out in the following model years.

year 3 of most models is the most solid and less problematic.

Sounds like god awful customer service! Hope that doesn't happen to me.

And for the post above that says that used CPO don't get loaners... I bought a NON CPO used Lexus ten years ago at dealer auction and had a variety of warranty work done. Always got a loaner.

Sometimes the premium is worth it

I've never had a bad experience with my dealer but it also helps that my service manager is a personal friend of mine. Last November, I told him there was a squeak in my steering wheel when I turned left. I just wanted them to squirt some grease in there but they replaced my steering wheel with a brand new one.

I get along great with the service advisor since we share a lot of common interests. He seems hamstrung by dealership policy, though. Hopefully your friend doesn't leave the dealership or get promoted to somewhere else.
