  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've got a 2024 G80 coming my way and was wondering what any of you paid to have the front grill, entire hood and mirrors wrapped in PPF. Locally the guy said XPEL has issues right now and they are not using it. They want $2.2K for the work I want done and that seems very high. So what did you pay? What film did you use a why? THX

$2,195.99 full front end up to front doors and film on mirrors.
$1,499.99 full front but partial front fenders and film on mirrors .
$120.00 door cups
$100.00 all door edges

After a very small ding to my hood caused by a very small rock and costing $1,555.00 to repair, I too am now considering PPF.
The paint repair was perfect and as picky as I am I have yet to notice any difference in paint match.

I live in Indiana. I received the quote last month from Ziebart. They use their own PPF which comes with a lifetime warranty. I have not had the work done yet as I am still taking everything under consideration. I have been advised by the collision repair company to wait for 30 days to give the new finish to the hood time to properly dry before putting anything on it. I’m looking at having the work done the end of the month.
The only reason I am considering PPF because I look for this to be my last trade and after that rock hit I don’t think I want to deal with that again.

A little dated but, I had Xpel wrap on my 2018 G80 Sport in Feb 2018. See my post here.
- Painted surfaces clear filmed with Xpel Ultimate PPF from front bumper to front door seam (including A-Pillar and headlights), door handles, door trim panels and trunk lip.
- All windows, except windshield, tinted with Xpel Prime XR Black 35 (VLT 36%).
Total cost was $2,300USD (Detail guy/dude did not breakout window tint and paint film cost).
I offered cash and he discounted $500. I thought I was stealing from him/what a deal!

Film has protected car amazingly. I've got a few rock chips in the film, but no damage to underlying paint.
I had a jerk rub my front bumper in traffic. It destroyed the film but no damage to underlying paint. Re-filmed and looks great.
The film is excellent for protecting the vertical window panels on the front and rear doors. This is high-gloss plastic and are prone to scratching.

Thanks for the information.

Last year when taking delivery of my new Electrified G80, I had full PPF applied to the entire car, apart from the roof which has solar panels.
Located in the UK, i used a company near Fleet in Hampshire - Auto-Protek. They used Xpel and then applied a Gyeon Ceramic coating.
Total cost was a little under £5,000 for the entire job.
Whilst I appreciate this forum is mainly U.S based, I thought I would make mention of this company to the handful of British contributors. Being extremely fussy and obsessive, I would thoroughly recommend Auto-Protek for the simply outstanding quality of work! They are a company who's standards and eye for detail are in line with the most demanding customers like me! They are only to happy to help no matter what the issue that has cropped up in the last 15 months, and its a genuine pleasure to deal with them.
And no, in case you were wondering, I'm not being paid by them, but just a very satisfied, if demanding, customer!

After just getting my car out of the shop to repair a small rock damage to my hood, someone or something put a very small dent in the A Pillar on the drivers side. A paint less dent repair is questionable due to the lack of access to make the repair. A glue pull of the dent could damage the paint. I will get the car back into the collision center to see what they say.
I am now questioning paying out a lot of money on PPF when someone or something can still do damage past the PPF. My car has already been painted on so it may not be any point for the PPF.
My youthful days are well over and perhaps it’s time to look at it for what it is, It’s just a car😱
It’s funny how we fight to save thousands of dollars on a vehicle purchase only to turn around and lose the savings on add ons for protection of the cars paint finish 😱

The Collision repair shop was able to do the paint less dent repair to the A Pillar with no problems at all.

I just had my G70 done earlier this week in MN. $1500 for the whole front end, half hood, door cups, mirrors, and door edges. Lifetime warranty and it was 3M.

Thanks for sharing. I don’t see PPF as able to protect against dents. To me, that’s asking a lot for such a thin product. Where I had filmed my car in 2014, the paint has held up well and the film still looks great.

I did not have the PPF on the car at the time of the rock chip or the dent. I have been considering having the film applied.
There are some companies that say the film in some cases can prevent dent damage as well as damage to the paint.
I have no high expectations of the film and perhaps that might be the reason I have been hesitant of having it applied.

PPF cannot/will not and is not designed to protect from dent's. It is designed to protect the paint from the environment (bird doo), SMALL road debris (paint chips) and owner induce mistakes (paint swirl).

Buy a Kevlar coat for your car it you want to protect it from dents and small arms. ;)

Things That PPF Protects Against

Here are the 6 most important things paint protection films will protect your car from.

1. Door Dings Protection

Paint protection film keeps your car’s paint safe from door dings unless they’re extremely strong. So, for standard “parking” door dings, high-quality PPF will prevent scratching and dents.

I rest my case🤔 Perhaps it depends on the quality of the PPF. I was also referring to minor dents.

Not sure what your source is for above, but they are either liars or fools.

PPF will not prevent even minor dents (e.g. door dings). It will provide some protection to the paint from being damaged by a minor even possibly a major dent.
