Cramped in Driver's Seat

I am tall and feel cramped in my drivers seat. I have it pushed and tilted as far back as it can go.

I find that other cars seem to have more drivers leg room. Does anyone have the same problem? ANY SOLUTIONS (including aftermarket tracks)??

I'm 6' 1" and I too had this problem at first. I was wishing for more seat travel as I prefer a more horizontal bottom cushion, and the only way to increase your distance from the wheel and pedals once you've moved back as far as you can is to increase the bucket--drop the rear of the cushion in relation to the front. I'm still too close to the wheel for my taste, but I've managed to adjust the seat to a position I'm comfortable with. Keep fiddling. Hopefully you'll find a position that works. Given the rear seat leg room in the Genesis, you'd think they would have added a little more rearward travel. By the way, this very problem killed the Honda Pilot for us a few years ago. The seat travel on that thing was very limited--most likely equipment pulled from another model to save costs--same thing here? We ended up with a Touareg in that instance.

Yup...you nailed it!! I have the seat as high with the rear dropped to the lowest position....


I'll feep fiddling...


I was thinking maybe some aftermarket tracks may do the trick but not sure if that is safe or even possible.....

I'm 6' 5" and the fit is great for me. Very comfortable, even on an 8 hour drive.

I am only a little over 5'9" and I have mentioned before that I have the seat all the way back, the steering wheel all the way forward and I still feel cramped! I don't understand how anyone taller than 6' could possibly find a comfortable position.

I have fiddled with the controls a lot and with the rear lowered and front raised to max, I feel the 'least uncomfortable'. I mentioned it to the service people and they said that it was normal. I tried a few other Genii and they were the same except for one 3.8, (I have the 4.6), which seemed to have a little more room. I have gotten used to it, but still think that it is a shortcoming in design.

I am 6.3 and have no problem at all with the seating in my Genesis, I drove it before i purchased it and no problem at that time or now. Still love the car.

Let's not forget that height in a person can be largely in leg length or torso length. For example, my hubby and a friend of ours are both 6'3". They are both the same height standing up, of course, but my hubby can not reach the pedals on the friends bicycle, and the friend is the shortest of the two when seated in identical chairs. Hubby has longer torso, friend has longer legs!

This can explain why some find the Gen just right, and others have to manipulate the seat and wheel to try to come to a comfortable fit!

I'm 5'9" and like the seat a notch forward, rear slightly dipped, and the wheel extended...I guess I have shorter arms, or at least I like a flex in my elbow while driving.

Good point! Although I'm 6' 5", it's mostly legs (37" inseam).

Dond13, was the 3.8 you drove a 2009? I wonder if this has something to do with the limiter (as I would assume the track is the same for all cars).

Did you feel that the seat went farther back or did it tilt more?

While I am only 6-1, I have long legs...hence the problem....

While I am only 6-1, I have long legs...hence the problem....

It was a 2009 model! It seemed to go back a little further than my 4.6 does but I didn't measure anything though. I don't really understand it, since my legs aren't extra long. I wear a 32 inseam. I have had several cars that I had to set the seat back quite a way, but usually not as far back as it goes. I have long arms, at '35' inches, and that is why I keep the steering wheel as far forward as it will go. I just sit differently I guess.

I hope someone from Hyundai actually peruses this site from time to time because there is incredible information in regards to easy improvements mentioned by owners and this is one of them. I had been hoping for a Genesis V8 with the tech package for ages but eventually elected to purchase a 2006 BMW 750LI instead. The seats were one of the reasons. I'm 6'4" and 265 pounds and have trouble fitting comfortably in most cars because I think the distance from my waist to my head is more than most. I always felt a little cramped in the Genesis and had to put the seat all the way down and back to fit at all and still did not feel as though I was sitting optimally. In the BMW I could wear a cowboy hat (but I don't own one ) and fit perfectly with perfect alignment for my back. Honestly, I think BMW took it too far with their 22 different adjustments but where they certainly got it right is having the ability to really lower the seat as needed without gratuitous cushioning which I think the Genesis suffers from. I also felt the lateral support from the Genesis seats was very poor. Just my two cents.

The only problem I'm having is in my upper back; shoulder blades and up. The upper part of the seat seems to push "out" instead of allowing my body to rest "in" the seat.

If I lean the seat back to have a slightly more reclined feeling then it puts a mild strain on my neck. But I haven't had the car long enough to figure it all out.

Does anyone know what the optimal seating position is supposed to be? Or is there a system (similar to the computers they use for a golf swing) to inform you of your best position?

Have you felt for the little round dial just behind the seat up/down/and forward/ back toggles? (I have this in my v8). Anyhow I'm feeling around and find this circular knobby and press in and out in several areas, and it stiffens or softens the neck and lumbar areas.....maybe you have one of these knobs in your model and need to play around with it some.

I played with this some this morning but need to find a combination of seat position and lumbar support that works. The highest the lumbar support goes is about an inch or two below my shoulder blades. Right now the higher I move the lumbar the more it forces my shoulders and neck forward, and that position is very uncomfortable.

Just to look at this question from the other side, my wife and I are both less than 5 foot 6. We find the Genesis fits us just fine. The Buick which I traded in to get our Genesis had a front seat that was a shade too long for us from back to front.

I made an adjustment tonight. Did away with all lumbar support, tilted foward what I would call a half click (not a full push of the long button) so I have a very slight upright position, and then moved the seat back about four inches. This works very well so far.

I'm 6'1" with long legs and like to have my arms bent when holding wheel. But the seat was too close and the bend in my legs seems to be the reason my upper back was hurting.

I moved the seat back so my legs aren't as bent and moved the wheel closer with the auto adjust button to keep the bend for my arms. Going on a 700+ mile trip this weekend so we'll see how I feel after.

I am 6'1" with long legs. No way for comfort for me in the GV70. I really wanted this car but comfort is most important to me. Lincoln suv's have 44" front leg room and the deluxe seats have separate leg extension support and close to twenty different positions. Genesis front legroom is 40.3". Apparently they designed for a 5'9" person which does not make sense unless you want to drive with knees bent under you and against the dash.
