  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello, I recently swapped my 3.8 sedan engine and trans with the 5.0 engine and trans. I have transferred the wiring harnesses and all engine control and transmission modules (I believe they are only located in the engine bay). I swapped over the fuel pumps as well. The vehicle will crank, but won’t start. I know it is getting fuel and all of the interior electronics turn on. I don’t think I’ve missed any connectors. The only thing I can think of would be a bad ground but it’s doubtful because I used the factory ground points and they have all been cleaned and are tight on. Any ideas?

Awesome job on the conversion! I'm wondering if the car may need to be hooked up to a Hyundai's GDS to reset everything?

Thank you! I thought about that but I don’t have much knowledge. I was hoping I wouldn’t need that since I used the same engine trans and modules. In theory, the car should think that nothing happened but I’m not too sure.

Many cars have the PCM talk to the other modules (like the instrument cluster), and disable the engine if too many or if key modules are different than the ones it was paired with from the factory. This is to done to make it harder to steal the car by swapping just one or two modules. Specifically for your car, I don't know if this is the case or not.

Next step would be to confirm you're spark plugs are sparking.

If you can afford or borrow a decent scan tool you can likely get the BCM and /or the Pcm, TCM to recognize the new trans and engine.
