Cranks, sputter for a few seconds, dies, now just cranks. fuel pump?

2009 with the 4.6. I drove into work this morning with no problem. Went to leave for lunch, the car cranked, started and sputtered for a few seconds, and now will just crank and doesnt try to fire at all. That sounds like a fuel pump issue as it probably ran off of what pressure was left in the fuel rails and now its not getting any more fuel. I just got the car about 1.5 weeks ago so it's pretty new to me, it also has 189k miles. I checked the fuel pump fuse and swapped the relay with another one, doesnt change anything. Is there anywhere on these cars to check for fuel pressure so i can verify before i buy a $300 pump? Is there anything else to check? For whatever reason my UltraGauge (bluetooth OBD2 code reader) only connects to the car with it running so i cant check for codes.

Get codes read first. Second it may be fuel pump. Mine was still working fine after 220,000 miles, however I did change the fuel tank air filter regularly every 30,000 miles and changed the fuel filter in the tank every 60,000 miles and both of these services extend the life of fuel pumps.
 
messed with it a little more. took the rear seat out and took the access panel off. It looks like someone has already replaced it once as it has a Spectre Premium fuel pump in it, not sure how old it is though. I unplugged the connector and i was going to check to see if it had voltage with the key on or at cranking. Then i though i would verify first if it was or wasnt actually running so i wouldnt be chasing the fuel system if i didnt need to be. So i plugged the pump back in, got in the driver seat and reached back to feel the top of the fuel pump, cranked it and i felt the pump run and the car started.

So that tells me that it was an issue with the fuel pump that was keeping it from running, not sure why unplugging it and plugging it back in make it work again, maybe the parts store fuel pump terminals in the connection build up some corrosion over time causing a bad circuit and unplugging it cleared that off, maybe it was something else, since i'm able to change the fuel pump with just a screwdriver i'll keep driving it (i stay in town 95% of the time) and see if it happens again, might throw some dielectric grease in there as well as it cant hurt.
 
i guess that doesnt rule out a questionable fuel pump relay either, might just get a new one as a precaution since they are cheap. Also forgot to mention i started the car several times and i could hear the pump run on key on every time and it started no problem each time.
 
Trying to look up the location of the fuel tank air filter. I know some of the other Hyundai's have it on the rear, driver's side wheel well area under the cover. Is it in the same location on the Genesis 4.6L Anyone have the part #? I have the # for the Elantra and I think it is a common part. Guessing it's not too difficult to change?
 
It looks like you get to it from the trunk on the floor right behind the rear seat. Knock on wood but it has been running with no problems since Monday when it happened, I've ordered a new fuel pump just in case and since you can change it with a screwdriver i'll keep it in the car just in case. I'll probably pick up the fuel tank air filter as well just to be safe

Did the fuel pump end up being the problem? I just experienced this exact same issue and have a fuel pump on the way. Thanks for any input.
