Genesis G80 Sport
Hello, I recently purchased a 2018 G80 Sport with about 11,000 miles. I've noticed creaking noises from time to time. It appears the sunroof is part of the issue, although I hear it from further back in the rear as well. Has anyone else noticed this, and/or taken any action to fix it?

My 2015 does this. Seems to mostly happen when there's a temperature swing involved. Like it's hot outside and as the a/c is cooling the interior off it does it. Once the temps have normalized it quiets down.

As far as what can be done, that's a dealership question I'd think. But be careful what you wish for in this case. If the only answer is tearing the roof apart, you may end up with a lot more noises once it's put back together. One thing you can do is have someone else drive and you hunt the actual source of the noise down. Sometimes there's easy fixes.

My sunroof creaks as well. The dealer did some adjusting and greasing at first, no joy. They then replaced the entire sunroof, not just the seal, the entire thing. The friggin thing still creaks.

Yeah - had it in my 2016 G80 3.8 and my current 2018 G80 Sport. Not terrible, but certainly noticeable. I just live with it.

my G80 sport sunroof creaks too. But, it is only when I drive up a or down from my driveway. I gave up getting it fixed. My dealer is so incompetent. Search for my post and you will see all the crap I have to deal with.

I also have some rattle/creak noises. Only in hot weather when I hit a bump. I thought it was the passenger seat belt rattling between the seat and the door pillar but I did hear if once after fastening the passenger seat belt. So I am not sure I have figured out where it is coming from. (Or maybe there are 2 sources as I am almost sure the passenger seat belt does rattle on occasion.) It is a minor nuisance. When I figure out where it is coming from I will decide whether it is worth fixing or not. (One thing I can say about my 16 Honda Accord Touring is that after 42,000 miles of ownership it didn't have a rattle.)

Yesterday I went driving down my favorite back road for the first time in the Genesis. I call it the Redneck Nurburgring. It's extremely twisty and a ton of fun to drive on. The surface is made like a track would be with the road angled down in turns and such, almost like the guys who paved it decades ago knew people would be using it like a road coarse. At least I do.

Anyway, the car popped and creaked way louder than I was comfortable with at times. Sounded like the sunroof and the windshield every time the car got into a bind where the front wheels were placed at a different angle than the rears when the road changed. Granted, it's not like the Genesis platform was built for this purpose.

I've been noticing creaking coming from the pano sunroof, specifically the front passenger corner of the part that opens. Based on the way it sounds, I'm thinking it's the weather seal between the glass and the body that's creaking as the car flexes over bumps in the road. It's a bit annoying, but given that it's the only unexpected noise in the car, I'm still happy.

Amusingly, it didn't make the noise at all until I opened the sunroof on a nice day. It'd previously been my dad's car and I don't think he ever opened the roof in the 18 months he had it. I'll have to try to get in there and clean the contact surfaces at the weather seal and see if that helps anything, but that's about as far as I'm willing to take it.

Hyundai has been working on this now for some time. Removing and re-seating the roof appears to be the only solution...a pricey one. It is my hope that Hyundai will abandon this design in favor of the set-up in the Palisade.

I too am experiencing poping and flexing in the roof. Greasing the rails with Krytox 205 has helped a bit. I am forced to accept that this is a weak point in this cars design.
