  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Crunch Time - Really Need Good Advice

At the dealer. They are checking for oil (none on our garage floor) however when she took it in the level was quite low two weeks ago to Valvoline and there was a knocking on start up which after the change is no longer there. I assume at 100k we use a touch more oil but having them check seals (metal on drain) to see what they see. 90K service $487.00. We've used Poway Hyundai and always been happy with them. Chatted about the transmission and clearly they were not in the habit of changing the fluid.

Two quarts low on oil is odd. I have 177,000 miles on mine and it does not use any oil. We change the oil and filter every 5000 miles using a Hyundai filter and have always used Valvoline 5w30 synpower. Could someone have changed the oil thinking the car only holds 5 quarts? It holds 6.87 quarts in the 4.6 V8. Also, did you take a look at the link regarding the ZF transmission? It is not a simple job like an old Chevy.

That's exactly what I think happened. Dealer said no sign of leaking oil anywhere. We have a pretty clean garage floor as well. I will check the level every two weeks after running the car for about 5 minutes and see what the dipstick shows. Thanks for your interest and input. ;)

I did look twice at the link you sent. It's kinda greek to me so I talked about it with the dealer. Clueless. Not sure what the next step would be as I have read here about transmission failures. I would not know how to find a shop which changed the transmission fluid. The dealer also pointed out if we do open it up it would void any warranty remaining...The car runs well with a near seamless shifting pattern. Will check for any leaks decrease in oil levels and take the car back in for a final inspect before 100k for warranty purposes. I may take it to another shop and say "find an oil leak" to be sure. There are some independent shops in town that may know about the transmission as well. With the new Pirelli's (net zero) the car looks sharp with a lower aggressive profile. We don't want to spend near $45K on a new Genesis and the Lexus Nx we looked at while very nice does not have the solid drive feel of her Genesis. In addition the Genesis is one of the safest cars around (take a look at IIHS videos and you'll immediately grasp that). If you can think of any more checks to do I will appreciate them while I hunt around for a transmission shop. Thanks.
