Cubby hole light under armrest always on?

I noticed today that the light is always on when my car is running in the cubby hole in the center counsel under the arm rest. Is that normal? I couldn't find a switch anywhere to shut it off.

It's normal. It runs on the instrument lighting circuit.

Thanks for the quick reply! I don't know why that bothered me ... just didn't seem right to have the light on when it's closed

Cheaper to leave it on. Turing it on by opening would require a switch and wiring. Then you have another part that can break.

Plus it is an LED, so you don't have to worry about bulb burnout like incandescents which last a finite amount of time (LEDs just gradually dim over time when used)
