  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
    If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Any ideas on repairing curb rash on wheels?

Testors makes a model airplane enamel in a very small bottle that matches wheel silver pretty well. A small paint brush and another bottle of Testors solvent will help.

Have you tried this on your GV80 rims? Any special prep work? Solvent for clean up?

Makes you sick when you are careful and still get rims scratched.

Web comments on repair kits are not good.

Thanks for reply.

How bad? There are wheel repair shops that can do wonders with them. Had a bent one fixed like new.

Usually about $200 from a wheel shop. I've done 3 so far. If you want it to look like new, I'm guessing wheel shop. If you want it cheap, wheel paint. The problem with these big wheels they're just too low in relation to curbs. Pay $200 or so and you'll probably be back at the wheel shop in 6-12 months with another $200+ bill.

Cheap method is to only rash the right side wheels and then you won't notice it so much.

Yes, I have used this, but not on my GV80. I have, thankfully, 20" wheels.

Most Hyundai/ Genesis dealers have a wheel repair guy that comes in once a week or so to repair rims. Usually around $150 or so and it will look like new. Call your dealer.

On a previous car, I managed to “fix” the rash by;

Wet sanding the spot with a very fine sandpaper then emery cloth while simultaneously running water over the rash. Very careful to not sand over undamaged area.
Use lots of water.

Not perfect, but you had to look close to see rash area.

On painted wheels I've seen amazing results filling deep scratches and gouges with body filler, sanding and painting.

Not guaranteed but to avoid rashing, only park straight in and use camera for all curved drives into hamburger pickup windows. I recently had a rash PLUS at a Burger King. About $600+ on a rental car which I would like to forget about.
