  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi i am new here but i will keep it short. I wanted to get my engine bored to a 5.0+ *cant get over the speed of my old 12 5.0 rspec, but basically the cnc machining guy said the cylinder walls would be too thin and he couldnt do it. I contacted Darton sleeves and they will build me custom sleeves in order to overbore. I just need help filling out this sheet because i have no idea about this kind of stuff. I basically want my engine overbored to atleast a 5.0. The sheet is attached below, please help

I can't help you with the sheet, but just boring that motor isn't going to get you to the power output of your old R Spec. Camshaft, valves, exhaust system are likely all different, so I doubt it's worth your time to bore the motor. If you did bore the motor you need someone to tune the ECU for you, and I'm not sure there's any options for this car as far as tuning goes (at least for the 4.6). I've read BTR used to have a tune for the 4.6, but no longer offers it. I'm not entirely sure why they stopped offering a tune, but I can't find it on their website.

Any idea how much that shop wanted to charge you? I have to imagine you could get an exhaust shop to make you a custom header back exhaust and get a race shop to dyno tune the car and make close to the power of your old R-Spec for a lot less than what than what that shop is going to charge you for a bored motor.

i know it wouldnt give the same power but its a huge step, the 5.0 is direct injection has bigger throttle bottle etc but boring will give the 4.6 a huge boost in torque. The 4.6 and 5.0 use the same exact exhaust systems, the 5.0 is a bored out version of the 4.6. I just need that sheet filled out to sleeve my engine

I understand. I'm sorry I can't help with the sheet as it's well out of my expertise with this motor, but maybe an independent shop that works on Hyundai could help? Have any local shops around you that would fit that profile? They might be able to give you the info to fill it out. Shot in the dark, but worth a try.

Just curious as to why someone at DARTON CUSTOM SLEEVES wouldn't be able to help you fill it out?

Or maybe do what i previously thought about doing before i decided to pursue boost. Find a nice rear ended 5.0 for auction and bid on it. You'll have an entire donor car to swap over whatever components you would need ecu/tcu engine mounts etc etc. You can DIY(my pref because building your own knowledge base on your own personal car is insanely beneficial) or have a shop do it, important part is you already have all the components.. Depending on year i would verify same transmision but also something youd look for in donor car search.

Saw one that looked like it reversed(guessing loss of traction) into a telephone pole at about 60-70. sitting inside even from the rear seats you would never have guess anything was wrong with the car. even from underneath it looked pristine barring the axle back part that was imploded. I realized our huuge trunk capacity is also a safety feature.

do you have a ballpark on what the price for custom sleeves will be? i cant imagine them being cheap. I would think getting a set of custom ground cams might be around the same price and get you more of a gain (and less work than installing new sleeves) than increasing the displacement by 0.4 liters. And either way it will need tuned.

I have a feeling a bigger cam, head porting and bigger valves, and custom tune (if you can get all that) would be the best way to go. I would understand wanting to bore the motor out IF you had the other things done in conjunction with it, but just boring the motor out without any of the other things is likely not worth the money if it's thousands of dollars.
