Anyone sure what the slot for the key fob in the dash does?

Do you mean for the key itself? If so, it's to be used if the battery in the fob dies or has issues.

It's pretty simple. If the car doesn't start when the key is in your pocket, slide the fob into the slot and try again. If the car starts, your fob battery is probably in need of replacement.

Just try to ignore them (for real) for their superiority complex is just a cover up for their true inferiority issues.
