  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Which do you prefer for the dashboard of the new Hyundai Genesis? The padded leather? Or the woodgrain?

Hey Sal....... was checking out the last page on the thread and this was it.......

To answer your question from long ago..... I have never been a woodtrim guy....... but in this case.... the wood trim works way better than the lether trim just because the leather trim mixed with the little bit of wood trim just doesn't go together...... I have gotten used to the woodtrim now and really like it.... I guess I'm turning into my Father... lol

The woodtrim would be a lot better if it were not so shinny. No wood on earth, regardless the number of poly coats on top, is a shinny as the Genesis plastic. It is more noticeable on the wide expanse of the front dash on the base model.

I am not accustomed to a leather padded dashboard, so it doesn't look right to me. I think the wood trim in most cars is waaay beyond a natural finish, but I have gotten used to seeing it. I would opt for the wood trim.

Woodgrain is fine, as long as it is real wood. The leather is okay. Not sure it is unique to the Genesis, but it is different.

I don't think you guys are talking about the TOP of the dash, because the top needs to have a matt finish, not shiney.

Last week, I found a place that sells the Dash-Matt, so I ordered it. Should come in sometime later this week, or perhaps next week. Will report when it comes in, and if it is the correct dash matt. (Here in Florida, and also in New Mexico, I need a matt to keep the dash from getting hot and cracking).

When I said "top" I meant the finish on top of the woodtrim, not where on the dash the the woodtrim is located. It is too glossy, glossier than any real wood finish, regardless of how many coats of poly are used on real wood. The high gloss is OK for most of the trim, but is a little too much (and too much glare/reflection) on the Genesis Base model on the wide expanse across the front of the dash.

The Genesis fake wood looks as good as some of the real stuff out there. I do not like the highly polished look, but, it seems that a lot of manufacturers go out of their way to make their real wood look fake.

I love my woodtrim...just uploaded a pic of my 1 week old genny...in my album.

I would like to have the wood. One thing though, the pictures I have seen show the lighter burlwood trim. My trim I have on the console looks almost black
