If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Anyone use a Dashcam in their Genesis? I'm thinking of getting one as I live in a city with a lot of bad drivers. Any recommendations?

Funny you should mention this. I just installed mine last week. If you google there are a lot of dash cams out there all shape and sizes and options like:
Rear camera option
g-force sensor
lane departure warning
image quality (Night) (Resolution)
Parking Mode Sensor
WiFi
Small screen or no screen
GPS
Forward Collision Warning
Size and type of mount

You have to decide what's important to you. With my research what was important to me was the mount, I didn't want some suction cup mount and a camera hanging down I wanted as much stealth as I could get. Plus they don't stick well. Was looking at a visor mount but not much out there so I went with one that used tape to stick it directly to the windshield behind rear view mirror would be nice but no room so next to it. There are some mirror mounts as well. I also went with high resolution you want to clearly see the guy and license plate. I went with WiFi so I can take my iPhone and connect to the camera to view and download the videos, hard to see them on the tiny screen they give you, important if trying to show the video say to a cop. Also wanted a rear camera but mine doesn't have one. Also bought the hard wiring kit didn't want some wire hanging down and plugged into my cigarette lighter. So now all the wiring is hidden. Also didn't want to have to manually turn it off and on so now mine turns off when I turn off the car and on when I start it and automatically starts recording so I don't have to think about it.

Also important is the company has good tech support.

I ended up with this one Rexing V1 3rd Gen 4K https://www.amazon.com/Generation-Dashboard-Recorder-G-Sensor-Recording/dp/B077B25H9K

Check out Massdrop the blackvue 750s should be pretty good, I'm thinking about getting one myself it has front and rear camera. You need to hardwire it in for motion detection, GPS and G sensor.

Can someone take a picture of how the dashcam looks? I love my genesis and I don't want to ruin it by showing wires.

Here is a couple I don't have a good picture right now.

How is it powered? Is it a USB Powered? Where does power cable go?

Its either cig lighter powered, or you hardwire it to the fuse box and hide the wires along the pillar moldings and roof liner.

But be careful a lot of these don't run on 12v if you hard wire it yourself mine runs on 5v. So you want to use their hardwire kit.

Good choice of camera and hard wiring a must on an expensive car. Just so you make sure, whomever is doing the hard wiring, knows what they are doing. One wrong connection, a puff of smoke and you could have car warranty problems. :(

Good point, good thing I'm a computer systems engineer. Also I noticed that the G80 when looking at the fuse panel has an on and off switch. Haven't seen that before on other model cars.

My 2 cents/thinking out loud - If I wanted something that gave me the functions of a dash cam but I wanted to keep the dash "clean" I'd try to put something in or behind the front grill. The wiring would be much easier to hide. If nothing ready made like that is available you could probably put something together (since your a computer engineer). I've seen Arduino systems that are quite inexpensive (e.g. https://www.open-electronics.org/a-complete-guide-to-arduino-based-video-camera/). Camera/Arduino board/SD card/a little programming/waterproof enclosure/a fuse/some wires and your good to go.

Actually we already have a front mounted camera in the grille now it's a matter of taping into it to some kind of recorder.

You could also take a dash cam and enclose it in a plastic cube with an access door and mount that just behind the grille.

BMW 7 series had this forever its to put the car in low power standby mode when not used for a while. Note sure if the does the same on the genesis.

I had considered tapping into the front camera but: 1. you again get into possible warranty issues, 2. without a schematic which wire is which, and 3. My front camera is pointed in a more downwards direction than I'd think you would want for a "dash" cam.

Plus you wouldn't get all the features a real dash cam gives you.

I had a good experience with Thinkware F750 and now F880 Pro, both front and rear. It's small - no screen, but I don't think I ever wanted it to have any screen to start with, good picture quality, both day and night, reasonable app. Wiring is not all that complex - front camera cord goes through the driver side pillar down to the fuze box and the rear camera is going through passenger side all the way through front and rear passenger side door under the trim to the rear window. Clean and neat.

I have a BlackVue 650 front/rear camera setup - and I love it. (Note: there is now a 750 model). I am not a car guy at all, and installed it myself in an afternoon with absolutely no wires showing. Fortunately, the G80 was actually very accommodating to hiding the wires. The best part is the rear camera is so small it doesn't get in the way of opening/closing the rear sunshade.

Here are pics of front camera:

Fuse Box (fortunately, G80 has an interior fuse box so you don't have to punch through firewall to engine compartment - also plenty of room to install the power box in there - black box with yellow writing on top right; Run the wires out the back of the fuse box down to the floor - you will have no loose wires under there):

Wires are super easy to hide. First, tuck them behind the vertical riser (don't have to take anything apart; between the riser and the windshield):
Wires along front.webp

Pull the rubber off the driver door frame - it is easy to put right back on - no worries. Hide the wire in the frame. Also, I snaked the wire through the vertical separator between front door and back door. Just avoid the seat belt in there. Then remove wire from the back door, go across the bottom and up the back...
Wires under rubber.webp

Go up along the back and through that curvy split between the two cover panels - that gets you over to the rear windshield - easy to push the wire down into it.

It really was simple and looks *perfect* - absolutely no wires show and no harm done to the covers, etc. Good luck!

Nice job, looks good!

I installed a Street Guardian dashcam in my G80. Installed it on the right side of the mirror assembly. Came with a GPS sensor which I installed on the interior right top of the windshield. Wired it to the fuse panel with a separate fuse kit. Wiring to the fuse kit is not straight forward since we could not put the wiring inside a panel running alongside the door. Took a little bit of tape to hide it along the seam but you cannot notice it. Best find an install video on Youtube for the dashcam model you want. Also, find the fuse that only activates when the car is turned on ( unless you want it running all the time) and stops power when the ignition is turned off. It was a wrong guess on the first try!

Your Street Guardian looks almost exactly the same as my Rexing V1 3rd Gen. As you mention you need to be sure to find the right fuse so it isn't running all the time.
