Hoping to locate with tires off this weekend.

I have no issues with my suspension.


I hope we will find a common set of hardware involved with those which report suspension issues. Those affected might then have recourse with Hyundai.

If you haven't had issues please post the same information requested.

I have a fairly late serial number (40,000+) and I have noticed the issue. Some people who have early serial numbers issues say they don't notice it. Many of the reviewers who drove early versions did notice it. So there does not appear to any correlation as to date of manufacture.

I think main reason for the difference is that people drive on different roads, and they have different tolerances for suspension/ride issues, and some people consider it a feature, but not an issue. It is mostly a matter of semantics.

However, since I believe the problem is the spring/shock assembly (which for the US/Canada version are apparently different than the version sold in Korea and elsewhere), and it is possible that there are manufacturing variances from one spring to another, or maybe even how they were installed. But I don't really give this theory a lot of weight.

When people have complained to Hyundai service departments, the response after a test drive has been that the ride is "normal." "Normal" means normal for the Hyundai Genesis, as in it is not a defect and there is no known fix for it (yet).

The real issue is when will Hyundai make an adjustment for future models (which I would bet they will do) and whether these adjustments can be retro-fitted to the 2009 for a reasonable amount of money (I doubt they will do it for free).

"Feature" means that it is working as designed and not a manufacturing defect. In other words, if the dealer replaced the suspension parts with the exact same OEM parts, would that solve the problem? "Feature" does not mean that it is necessarily desirable, even according to those who designed it.

If you think that only some vehicles have the problem, that might be different, but I don't think there is much difference between vehicles. Differences have more to due with road surfaces, personal preferences, the way in which the exact same phenomena is described differently by different people, passenger load, etc.

There may be some softening of the vehicle over time, but not enough in my opinion.

I was being a bit toungue in cheek. Agreed not all features are desirable!
I can attest only to my case however, there is a huge difference between the demo I drove and my vehicle on the exact same roads.

That is an interesting claim. I wonder if you can reproduce that (no problem with a demo). If the dealer did something to the car, you would think that one of their current demos what be in the same condition (lower tire psi, heavy weights in trunk, etc).

Given the number of reviewers who commented on the suspension, and those who have commented on it in this and other forums, it is certainly not an isolated situation, even if it does not occur on all cars. Several people who complained said there service department told them it was normal after taking a test drive (maybe that was you who said that).

All of the roads near the dealer where I took a test drive were fairly new paved asphalt and were near perfect, and that is what I account for my surprise later on.

My car is great on smooth roads but if you hit a bump it feels like there is no suspension. Dealer says that these are normal specs for the Gen.
