  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The dead pedal (left foot rest) on my '12 3.8 is too far forward for my comfort. What about you? Anybody done any fixes?

Get a left shoe with a lift installed? Fasten a block to the pedal?

Wow, two comedians.

Sorry. Couldn't resist. :D

I'm assuming that you test drove the car before you bought it? What can I say? You got what you bought.

How bad is the distance to the "dead pedal"? Perhaps you can get some thick soled flip-flops, cut off the straps, and bolt one in.

So, only one constructive comment so far. I'm sure I'm not the only guy here who has discovered something in a new car that he didn't care for and asked for constructive comments from fellow owners. I doubt I'm the only guy who finds the dead pedal too far away.

You are correct...the pedal is too far away. There was a thread on this a while back also. Did you trying searching on the forum?

I'm OK with its placement. It's just to pliable for me. Wishing it was aluminum.

And don't press too hard on it in flip flops, or you'll get your shoe stuck between it and the sidewall.

Thanks for some intelligent remarks. I imagine that some kind of plate overlay could be affixed to the current dead pedal. Adhesives are pretty advanced these days. Anybody out there own a machine shop that would make up a few prototypes? A plate 1/2" to 3/4" might be thick enough.

How about a black accelerator pedal or the like mounted on something to give it some thickness? You could glue it in place with some marine or construction adhesive. The purpose of the footrest eludes me anyway - many of my cars have had them, but I never found a use for them.

Well, yes, that's the concept, but not quite on target with my personal design tastes. Also, some thickness is needed. 1/4" not fat enough.

I think 1/4" thick aluminum would be thick enough, though I agree on the styling.

The dead pedal helps to keep you firmy planted in your seat while driving, especially during hard cornering moves. The Genesis seats don't cradle you in very well (side support lacking). Perhaps the dead pedal is also a throwback to the days of manual transmission clutching when the left foot always had to be ready for that action. In any case, I miss the firm support of a properly placed dead pedal. So would Jackie Stewart and Sterling Moss. Also Jeremy Clarkson and the Top Gear crew.

Sounds good. What we need is a guy who can produce a prototype and sell it here. Anybody "have the technology?" I'll take a dozen.

Many years ago ( '74-'80), I was an early member of the national Datsun Z Club of America, a great operation based in Passaic, NJ, but with a speed shop and newsletter. This was long before the Internet, of course. In any case, those guys could whip up something like this in their shop and sell hundreds of them overnight.

The Genesis dead pedal is properly placed for most people. The problem is that there are too many midgets on this forum.
