I bought a 15 Ultimate AWD last month with 15,800 miles on it from CarMax. I stopped by a nearby Hyundai dealer yesterday to get prices on the extended warranty for 10 years, 100,000 miles. The finance manager told me that specific warranty is only available to the first owner. The longest coverage she said I could get as the 2nd owner would be 6 years, 85,000 miles. That would only cover me for 1 year or 25k miles past the factory warranty. Do any of you know if a second owner can get the Hyundai 10 year 100,000 mile warranty? I'm a little concerned because of all the electronics on the car and the short 3 year, 36k mile warranty on the radio. I'd like to have the extra coverage.

Not sure how my car fits the "2nd" owner category. It was sold to me as used ( so I wouldn't get the full 10 yr/100K miles coverage ). It was never sold to a previous owner. Hyundai used it as a prop & loaner at a golf tournament they were sponsoring in Hawaii. Then bought by a Hyundai dealership in Dallas, where the dealership owner drove it for a few months. Then I bought it. There was no issue about buying the extra warranty. In fact, they really pushed it. The 10 years stayed 10 years, but the mileage was extended to either 110K or 120K ( not sure & probably should look it up ). I suspect you got incorrect information.

What he told you was exactly right. If you aren't the first owner the Platinum Bumper to Bumper Warranty is not available to you unless you are purchasing it from a first owner, who is willing to transfer his 10 Platinum Warranty to you thru the dealership.

That's a great scenario you got yours under. That 10 year warranty gives a long time to enjoy driving worry free. These cars are so much fun to drive, I was hoping to get more time under warranty.

That's a shame for me. It's the one thing I didn't know before buying. I had a used Infiniti before and was able to buy their platinum warranty at any time before the basic, bumper to bumper warranty expired. I thought it was the same thing with Hyundai. I'll just keep enjoying the Genesis and pray the head unit doesn't act up. I have to think that Hyundai knew the head units were a problem and didn't warranty them as long as everything else to keep from eating the repair costs. Oh well...

I bought my 2010 CPO from a dealer and purchased an extended warranty for 10 years 100k miles. Are you saying they don't offer this anymore on the 2G or Genesis models?

When I was first considering purchasing a used 2018 G80 a couple of weeks ago, the dealer told me that I could purchase the extended 10 yr/100k warranty and that it would cost $1,500. Just to be sure, I called Genesis Customer Service directly and they confirmed that a second owner could purchase the extended 10 yr/100k warranty from the dealership. Now I would have been buying the car from a Hyundai/Genesis dealer while the OP bought his car at Carmax, so that may make a difference.

They still offer it on CPO if you buy from Hyundai/Genesis. I'm not sure they do if you buy from another dealership like I did. I called Hyundai customer service yesterday and the associate told me to try another Hyundai dealership. She said the dealerships are independently owned. She also said not offering the 100k mile extended warranty sounded like a rule that particular dealership follows. But she didn't think it was a rule that all dealerships follow.

You summed it up exactly. I'll have to check to see if the two other dealerships in my area also tell me I can't get the extended warranty through Hyundai. I've got nothing to lose at this point. It's worth a try. That $1,500 price would be good too.

Also, CarMax has a big habit of lying to customers.

Case in point; Recognized a Porsche Turbo for sale on the CarMax lot which was right around the corner from the Porsche dealer. Knew who the previous owner was and it was bought a month earlier used as a certified Porsche with 3K miles.

CarMax was attempting to sell it for 10K more than what it was purchased used, from the Porsche Dealer around the corner. Also claimed it was a Porsche Certified pre-owned and they were attempting to sell it as such on the internet. Caught them in a lie up front, as it could only be sold as a pre-owned certified Porsche, if sold by Porsche.

Walked off the lot and won't do any business with them ever. I know all this; as it was the same car I looked at a month earlier at the Porsche dealer. Thought about buying it and actually went back to make an offer and they told me exactly who they sold it too.

The factory backed HPP is only offered to CPO cars. So buying from Carmax obviously isn't Hyundai CPO unfortunately. Scroll about 2/3rds down the page to "CPO Wrap" for the Gold and Platinum options.

Thanks for sharing this link. The detailed explanation of coverages is super-helpful.

Wow that's not good on Carmax's part. I'm sorry you had to go through that. I was down on Carmax too because their prices are typically thousands higher than the asking prices should be. On my Genesis though, it was the opposite. The sales price was well below retail, so I decided to go look at the car. The sales associate was the most knowledgeable and customer friendly auto sales person that I ever dealt with. She was also straight forward and honest. I wish all my previous car buying experiences had gone that well.

Guys, this is just not true.

I have a 2015 V8 with 35,000 miles on it. I did not buy the car from Hyundai Dealer. I however recently purchased HPP (Platinum Level) from the dealer in my area. The HPP Platinum Plan covers me for 7 years 100K miles from "the purchase date" of the plan.

The dealer is correct, you cannot purchase that from the dealer. However, I purchased 6yr/125K from USAA. It was dirt cheap for the 2015 5.0. I mean dirt cheap $1,700.00 and it covers everything except tires, brakes, battery ect., as if I was leasing the vehicle. FYI they had the same plan for other vehicles for no less than twice that amount.

You've made my day with this good news. I plan to keep the car for years because the mileage is so low. The HPP warranty is just what I need to do that worry free.

USAA provides exceptional service. All insurance companies should be as good. I'm glad you got such a good deal.

Be wary of the USAA plan. If the managing firm (USAA plan isn't managed by USAA), you MUST get into touch with USAA post haste. There are a number of negative reviews and only with USAA's assistance was the claim paid.

I’m not sure if you can get 10yr/100k mile warranty because it wasn’t sold as CPO vehicle. Hyundai dealers can sell used Hyundai’s as a CPO if they’re traded in by the first owner 2014 an newer with under 60k miles.

It looks like there's a lot of variation with different dealerships. There are 5 in my area. I stopped by another one and the finance manager said that they don't sell the HPP 10 year warranty. He said that some dealers do and some don't. He offered an extended warranty through Fidelity.
