  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Dear Mr. Fitzgerald - Genesis Brand leader

Agree completely on the larger nav screen across the board for all models and trims. Best suggestion by far to this point.

Come on bud, you think that the bigger nav screen is the best suggestion on this thread but you don't want headlights to come one when wipers are on?

You've got to be kidding me.

How about this scenario:

Mid afternoon on the 401 (you know how shitty Toronto drivers can be), it's an overcast day, but enough daylight for the auto lights not to turn on. It starts to rain. Just out of common sense, if it's raining the headlights should be on. Not only for front facing visibility but for the people coming up behind you at 130+ Km/h. They need to be able to see you in the rain.

Wipers on = headlights on. It's been a rule to follow as long as I can remember.

To those who would like to see the headlights turn on when wipers come on....

Just turn your headlights on all the time that way you don't have to worry about it whether it's raining or not. They'll automatically turn off when you turn the car off too.

You're welcome.

"A much softer center armrest"

I"m gonna have to drop one of my original 5 because I agree with this wholeheartedly. The door arm rest is nice & cushy, so why did they make the center plank-like?

Maybe I've got sensitive elbows, but the right one was sore after a 20 mile drive today.

Yup.

Nope.

Just because you say it's a rule doesn't make it so. Just because some States made it a law doesn't mean it makes sense. Shall we start a thread of BS traffic laws and see how long it gets?

A light sprinkle of rain on an overcast day does not mean that headlights are needed - UNLESS ambient light is low enough to require it - which is already covered. I can't think of a circumstance I have encountered so far where I needed my headlights but the auto lights failed to activate.

You seriously think THIS is something that would take the Genesis up a notch? You gotta be kidding me! :) Nav screen is something you use EVERY single time you drive.

I had a Chevy Volt and it had the wipers associated with the lights. If the wipers were activated for more than I think 3 passes or 5 seconds or something like this, the lights turned on. I think that if you are using your wipers regardless of visibility my state law says wipers on, lights on.

As to all the other ideas to make the car great.....Hyundai cars don't have remote start on any model that I know of like GM and Chrysler cars do almost as a matter of course.

I use the app and pay for Bluelink so it is not an issue for me to have it on the remote which I never take out of my pocket to use and kind of defeats the purpose of keyless access and the magic trunk opener feature.

I can't think of anything that I would want to change other than the wiper/light idea and maybe the auto hold/brake idea and eliminating the switch.

Regarding #1, I am fine if it doesn't remember the mode but when moving the gear shift into manual mode, put into sport mode. If you are intending to manually shift gears it makes sense to first go into Sport mode. Infiniti works this way when moving the gear shifter over to manually change gears (S Mode).

I would like to see All Around View camera added (front and sides in addition to backup camera).

How about CarPlay on Ultimate package!

All around view camera would be awesome.

I would also like the option of tying the heated/cooled seats to the climate control. My Lincoln LS had this (you pushed the heat/cool buttons simultaneously and it would go into automatic mode. It would stay that way next time you started the car. This would require a minor redesign of the heated/cooled seat switch into 2 separate switches).

Regarding Wiper on, Headlights on....

30 states either require that, or require headlights on in adverse weather, i.e. rain.. snow, etc. So that's 60% of the US states that effectively require this by law.
In most of these states DRLs don't count. It has to be headlights.

I had this feature on Chryslers going back to the 1990's. I really appreciated the feature. When I traded to Infiniti (i30t and G35), it's a feature that I missed.

IMHO, this option could be implemented in the user menu to turn the feature on or off.

Vehicle setup is absolutely the way to go. If not through the main display menu, there are now various smartphone apps out there that can configure a multitude of vehicle setup parameters through an ODBII wifi interface. Maybe we'll see one for Genesis vehicles...

My #1 is....

North American markets gets what the rest of the world gets. I feel this will not make the cut as a luxury car without ALL of the trimmings. If Korea, Russia and even Vietnam get all the goodies then the US of A should get them also !!!! This may be the reason the 2015 is my last Genesis.. Sorry Hyundai. Your marketing strategy just does not make sense to me....

WRONG!

The North American market gets what the U.S. DOT and EPA regulate it will get. Period.

For example, rear fog lights (bright yellow elements), flashing brake lights (flash on hard brake application), full-time front high beams with block-outs for oncoming cars, pedestrians? Nope, none are allowed in the USA because the government says "No!" So, even though the hardware exists in U.S. models, the functions are disabled at the factory.

OK, the big wigs at Hyundai supposedly keep tabs on enthusiast forums like this one to keep a finger on the pulse of the car-buying public.

I have waded through most of the "Dislike" thread, but its 90-something pages are kinda disjointed and tend to get off-topic.

As Genesis sedan owners, I think we should make a concise list of improvements that should be made to the car, with the aim of helping Genesis management get the G80 right.

So Manfred, here are the top 5 things that this Genesis owner thinks Hyundai should improve upon before you release the G80 in the future:

1) the drive mode button (normal, eco, sport, snow) should return to the last setting when the car is started

2) the head lights should turn on when the wipers are activated

3) the heads-up display should show turn signal indicators

4) the auto hold button should be eliminated, ala' MB, and should be activated by simply pushing the brake pedal when stopped w/ the tranny in D

5) a remote start button should be put on the keyfob

These are things that could be done relatively quickly and cheaply, as opposed to another desire of mine that would require a major redesign: I think the rear end of the car needs to say "I'm a major league luxury car" instead of "I'm the big brother of the Sonata".

So anyway, what are your top 5?

Offer 8 cylinder/AWD in US.

Set seat/steering wheel/mirror position/last radio station based on driver key fob. My 2006 Chevy does this.

Use relatively upright seat back position (maybe 15 degrees or so) when designing (and certifying) head restraint location. The current design forces head forward when seat back has little recline. This is a severe problem for my wife (and many other tall people with good posture). For people who prefer more recline, the fore/aft adjustments in the current headrest provide proper positioning.

V8 / AWD - amazed it took this long to get mentioned. Yes - that should be available with all engines going forward.

From what I understand the "gas guzzler" tax would make the price prohibitive.

Yes, the gas guzzler tax has had the effect of removing V8s from getting AWD. When I was looking at the new Chargers you can only get AWD with a V6. The car companies are being forced to increase the CAFE ratings. This was decided by Congress right after the president came into office, and like many actions was not to take effect until late in his term.

I had a Lincoln and a Mercury before the Genesis and they both had lights on with wipers. It may be one of those American laws that the domestics set up their cars for, but the imports ignore.

And I agree that remote should be on the key FOB. I suspect it's a revenue generator the way it's set up right now. The other suggestions are interesting, but I don't have a strong opinion either way.

No, the headlights came on with the wipers on my Infiniti Q50. It's a manufacturer thing, not a geographical one.

Never had a car that turn on headlights when wipers are on, Chevy, VW, Toyota, Nissan, BMW, MB, Hyundai but I live in Florida where is not required.

When the most talked about need for this car is wipers to go on automatically with the lights, its not doing too bad for new model.
