  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Deciding between 3.8 vs 5.0 G2

I have both a 2015 5.0 Ultimate and a 2015 3.8 AWD Ultimate. I keep the 5.0 in Florida and the 3.8 in my Colorado summer home. I needed all-wheel-drive for Colorado in case I was there during the winter so I got the all-wheel-drive model. I had concerns about the V6 until I drove it. The V6 accelerates very acceptably and handles the road well. If I had it to do all over again I probably would buy the V6 Ultimate instead of the V8 for Florida.

I'm now on my third Genesis, a 5.0 Ultimate. My first two were both 3.8's and in more than 160,000 Km's (100,000 miles) on those cars, I never felt a need for more power. The V6 will make things in the rear view mirror get much smaller very quickly, especially during a passing maneuver.

I went for the 5.0 this time only because the 3.8 Ultimate trim is not available in Canada. Now, having said all this, after putting about 1600 Km's on my new 5.0 in the past 10 days I am very impressed with the extra smoothness and the feeling of easy power is intoxicating.

The comments above address the issues accurately, fuel consumption is definitely worse on the 5.0, steering is lighter on the 3.8 etc. etc.

The AWD is super sweet on this car, so if you live in the snow belt, that could be your decision maker since is is only available on the 3.8 in the U.S.. If you live in the south and don't mind the extra $$$ involved with the 5.0 for purchase price, fuel consumption, insurance, tires and pretty much everything you do with the car, go for the V8.
