  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey everyone,

My name is Cristian I just joined today. I am looking at purchasing a Genesis very soon. I am in love with the new G80 sport but I want to wait a couple of years for the price to come down a bit to get one of those. In the meantime, I am looking at two 3.8 Genesis sedans. I have done quite a bit of research but wanted to know other opinions. Both are 2016 models. One has 23k miles and is AWD but does not have Ultimate package. The other has the Ultimate package but is not AWD and has 39k miles. I want to have this car for at least a couple of years. I really like the perks of the Ultimate package but the AWD one still has the signature package and its less miles. Both are same price.

What do you all think?

Here are the links to both cars:

Unless you really need AWD get the ultimate. If the other one had the tech package the decision would be close.

If you are in the Rochester area AWD may be a big plus for you. Other than that, the Ultimate features make the everyday driving experience much nicer. You have the HUD, the DIS knob, larger navigation screen. You will not be able to get
Apple Car Play or Android Auto though.

Tough to advise you because I'm on my second Ultimate AWD and really like both features. If you have the time and patience, they are out there.

Yea I don’t think I really need te AWD. Sure I’d love the ultimate AWD but those are hard to find. I’m leaning towards the ultimate right now.

I’m located in Silver Spring, MD. I’m going from a mustang to this Genesis so I think I should be okay. I’m definitely leaning towards the ultimate right now. It would be awesome to have both but like you said they are hard to find. I was considering a 2015 5.0 ultimate but I’ve seen that there are many complaints with electronics on the 2015 year Genesis so I’ve decided to stay away.

As a fellow DC area commuter, ultimate with the driver assist + big map + HUD is great for me. I find WTOP and the Nav map make Waze/phone-based maps not needed. Good luck and see you on the beltway.

My favorites are the HUD, DIS knob, large screen, and driver assist on long interstate trips.

I like my 2015 5.0 Ultimate, but it does seem to have to some issues mostly cosmetic like worn chrome trim on the shift knob and wiper controls.

I would recommend buying one, but also to buy an extended warranty to cover the electronics since Hyundai factory warranty is powertrain only for second hand owners unless you get a CPO covered car.

However, my only electrical issue has been a faulty reverse camera.

What other electrical issues are being reported?

Keep looking... it might take a while but you should be able to find what you want.

I dislike AWD. A Genesis is a big heavy RWD car that does fine in the snow. As long as there is not much hills/mountains. I'm in Michigan and do just fine in my RWD Genesis. I put on 15k per year and do outside sales. No issues at all. Better fuel economy too.

I just purchased my 2015 Ultimate AWD and could not be happier. If you are not 100% which one you want, go and test drive both. Pay attention to the engine startup rattles. Do one cold startup and then do another one with warm engine. Shut off the engine and start it up 15 or 20 minutes later. Mine does rattle at cold and warm startup but I am not really concerned as I have 100k miles powertrain warranty (got engine replaced under warranty with my previous 2013 Azera due to the same issue).

Some deals to be found on the 2015 model year.
I found one on CarGurus about 30 miles away — a 2015 Gen 5.0 Tech (empire grey) with only 5,000 miles.
Asking $30k—but I'm fairly sure there's some negotiating room on THAT price...

So no one thinks I should get the AWD non ultimate even though has less miles than the ultimate? 23k miles vs 40k miles. I just want to make sure the ultimate package is worth the extra miles.

OK I’ll be the one to vote for the all wheel drive.
I have an all wheel drive without the ultimate package in my last car was an Audi 8L. I’ve driven an ultimate and I really didn’t like the electronic Gearshift. I think the lower mileage car is a significant plus!

I say test drive both. If they both drive the same way (suspension and handling wise) go for the Ultimate and enjoy all the perks that come with the package. I really love the big screen that fills the whole screen area, the screen control on the center panel which makes you not use the touch screen at all, real matte wood trim, real aluminium trim, heads up display and probably couple more.

The 2015 will not have the electronic gearshift.

Thanks for the input! Both are 2016 I’m not looking into 2015 because there are many electrical issues per my research. I’m leaning towards ultimate.

Went to test drive the ultimate today. Absolutely loved it. Car is in immaculate shape. There is a tear in the back seat leather that CarMax is going to replace completely to fix but other than that I really like it. The HUD and big screen and powered trunk really helped me decide on the Ultimate. Also it has better gas mileage. Sure I’d like less miles on the car but this is only for a couple of years until I can get a G80 sport. The ivory interior is beautiful. Very handsome car. Overall very happy. Will probably make the purchase within the next week. Thank you everyone for your input. First thing is to put the wing emblem on the back lol.
