  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Seems like the worst hit car when it comes to depreciation is the Gen1 Genesis. http://www.autoblog.com/photos/cars...90536&ncid=txtlnkusaolp00001366#slide-3340672

Oddly enough it seems like it was caused by the massive overhaul of the Gen2 which makes the Gen1 one of the best used car deals out there. http://www.autotrader.com/best-cars...-best-cars-to-buy-used-rather-than-new-234955
I doubt their numbers and logic. Besides, a one year old Genesis is a 2015, not a G1 2014 model. The 2015's went on sale almost two years ago.

The fact is that a new Genesis has been very highly discounted starting in about 2014 model year (continued in 2015 and 2016), much more so than previous model years. That has been a big factor in the so-called "depreciation" since they use MSRP, and not actual selling price, in the calculation. Due to the very strong US dollar, and relatively weak Korean won, HMA has been able to offer large discounts on the Korean made Genesis in the last few years.

which mean the 2015-2016 Genesis will take the same hit once the G80 and G90 start getting to the dealerships:mad:
Probably, but we don't know if they will raise prices for the almost identical car (G80 at least), just because it is no longer a Hyundai.

I do not think so as there apparently are no changes to the G80 apart from a standard wing badge on the trunk. In fact being there is a now a separate "Genesis Division", it may actually improve the resale value. Food for thought.

My future with Genesis vehicles all depends on what type on SUV they come out with as I want to go back to this type of vehicle. Just too practical in all respects. I also prefer to sit higher up as opposed to sort of on the floor.

Right now my favorites are Porsche Macan GTS, Audi SQ5

I hope you're right - I can live with a new badge - but I would hate to lose the V8 - as is widely rumored. I may be in a market for the G80 when it's out.

The depreciation numbers would be depressing if someone actually paid anywhere near MSRP for this car.

If you look at what some us of paid for leftover 2015 5.0s this year vs. what the current KBB/NADA trade-in value is, the depreciation is minimal

If the G80 is priced the same at MSRP as the 2016, and with same discounts as available on current 2016 models models, then the 2015's and 2016's are going to have be seriously discounted even more.

it also depends on how low hyundai goes to unload the remaining inventory. once it clears the used car prices should stabilize.

I think it will start to stabilize.

the 2012 after minor cosmetic change genesis sedans seem to bottom out at 13k for base model to 16k for tech package.
