If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Need some help here, as I'm a novice on blogs. I've done online research on the Genesis and have decided to buy one for my wife. I am very close to closing a deal on an allegedly new 2009 4.6 Genesis with Tech pkg, but have some concerns and need advice.

BACKGROUND:
The car was purchased by a SLC Ut dealership from another dealership that liquidated in Las Vegas with slightly over 2000 miles which concerns me for a "NEW" car. Vehicle has a tag on the windshield from the Vegas dealership that states added value as the vehicle was lowered (dropped) tag says this is worth $1500. Tag also says it has $5000 worth of rims current installed tires are Bridgestone Turanza 245/R50R18's. After much online researching they look like stock chrome rims (the SLC dealer says they're D'Vinci's; I saw many varieties but not under the D'Vinci name). I think I found them on the Hyundai Genesis website (looked identical to what's on the vehicle with the exception of the size) I can see no manufacturer's name on the rims that are on the vehicle. I do have the option to put stock alloy rims and tires back on the car, since vehicle was lowered.

QUESTIONS:
1. Is there a mileage limit to what is considered a new vehicle or not?

2. Does the vehicle lowering and installation of over-sized rims negatively impact the vehicle warranty in any fashion (I saw a website that said it may)?

3. Is the dealership additional undercoating, additional paint coating (they claim at a microscopic level paint is rough and the additional coating fills it in, so that things like hard water from sprinkler systems is simple to wipe off), and additional upholstery protection stuff worth the $400+ or is it yet another dealership ripoff?

I apologize for unloading up front, but the deal is supposed to be finalized tomorrow and I'm more than a bit nervous at the amount I'll be spending (~$35K out the door) if I finalize the deal. Desperate clfdpops12!

Hello and welcome to the forum. :welcome:
To help you a little with your questions;
1. Unless the vehicle has been titled to other party, it is still considered 'new'. However, the mileage on that vehicle is unacceptable for me. I'd get some kind of compensation for that lost mileage.

2. I'd just get the stock wheels/tires on it. $5000 is just ridiculous unless they have some kind of 3-piece custom wheels like HRE, etc.
Plus, I'd question where they sourced that "lowering" kit from. To my knowledge, there's no lowering spring or coilovers for the sedan offered in the US.
If the vehicle was sold with the modification from the dealer, I think the warranty is still honored.

3. Snake oil BS. Take that off the sticker price. Please.

I hope you get the car you want.
If I were you, though, I wouldn't buy that car.
What kind of price were they asking?

Dan

The tires on that car are actually bigger than the stock tires. Their claim that they cannot install stock rims is simply false. Also there are lowering springs, but the car sits pretty low already, so it could just "look" like it has been lowered.

Unless they are selling that one really cheap (less than 33K), I would get a brand new 2010 4.6 Tech.

Sorry I missed the price.
Actually, $35k OTD isn't too bad.
If that was what they were asking, I'd counteroffer $33k to lower the final price to $34k.
Good luck!

Dan

I think I'd worry more about what the car was used for. The mileage and pimping sounds like it may have started out as something of a VIP-style conversion to try to sell cars and then used as a sales manager's car or a loaner.

And unless you were going to lower the car anyway, I can't see why you'd buy a lowered Genesis. And if you were, then you'd probably want to get it done the way you wanted it done.

Price isn't that bad since you said it's an OTD price, but then again, we're talking about a car that's probably well older than 18 months, 2000+ miles on the odo, and modified (and from what I can tell only from your description, the mods are probably going to hurt rather than help the value of the car).

Funny thing, when my son (who has been a lot tech) and I went to inspect the car and bring it home last Friday one of the folks that mentioned the 'snake oil BS' was right on the money as I told them I wanted to look at the car up in the air when I arrived to inspect. The undercoating they were touting as 'like rhino liner' was total BS, it was actually sprayed on out of an aerosol can, no doubt worth the $400 the weasels charged me. The springs were replaced as the ones that were on the vehicle when I saw it with over-sized rims were not the original OEM springs. I was told they put all new OEM springs back on the car. They also put brand new tires on the car and put Genesis original rims on as well. However, when I had originally asked if the car had any damage they had been quick to grab one of the vehicle reports you can get online to show it had not been in an accident. That works great for those accidents that are turned in. However when they happen at a dealership they do not report it and this was the case as there had been damage to the passenger side rear quarter panel they did not tell me about and had I not had experience in this area and the vehicle not been polished like I had requested I may have missed it. But, I did catch it, it was a crappy repair job, crappy paint job and had to have been repaired and painted in a dirty paint booth as there were dust particles trapped under the paint. I don't think there was any significant damage done, more than likely someone at the dealership had gotten careless. But, my point is this is allegedly a 'BRAND NEW' car, there should be ZERO damage anywhere....there was also a small ding in on the front fender within an inch of the passenger door. I'm thinking if I buy it they should reduce it another $3-5 grand......thoughts.....

All that being said the Genesis is still a GORGEOUS vehicle!

Also, if you can live with the aftermarket springs and considering they got rid of the wheels and tires I would offer $30K. Thats just me.

If not, keep searching for a brand spankin' new one for $35K

It's just not adding up. Damage, musical chairs with the parts, bad re-spray, unverifiable history. I love this model, but you deserve a car that has been treated better. I'd even say that you should get a non-Tech or a V6 Tech new rather than be disappointed by a car (and dealer) who may not be on the up and up.

i got my 09 v8 tech otd for 35k with 12 miles. the ONLY lowering option available for the v8 sedan is ARK coil overs. all the dealer add-ons are BS IMO. if you can get the car for close to 30 and get new car financing run with it
