  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Did Genesis make a mistake not bringing the Azera over instead of the G70?

Genesis Model Type
No Genesis Yet!
I am a current Azera owner and it is by far the best car that Hyundai ever made. I noticed that the G70 is smaller in rear legroom and is missing features like ambient lighting that the Azera has always had. It has been a mystery why Hyundai did not bring that car to the US. Only thing I can think is they did not want to cannibalize sales of the G70. I think the better solution would have been to bring the new Azera to the US as the G70. The Azera can use both the 2.0 and 3.3T engines and the additional legroom in the rear would fix one of the biggest complaints I have seen about the car so far.

Ditto. I love the Azera.

Well considering the Azura is FWD and the G70 is RWD/AWD it would cost too much to convert. This is a dumb idea and they are going the right way with not having ANY FWD models. People want RWD/AWD luxury cars. Only old people buys the lexus one and that is also why Acura is hurting in sales.

I think part of the thinking for establishing the Genesis brand was to introduce a car that wasn't a Hyundai legacy design spruced up to be a Genesis but a totally new model exclusive to Genesis. The Stinger undercut that reasoning to a degree but most people are probably not even aware that it's as similar under the skin to the Genesis as it is. Of course, the same reasoning might have applied to the Azera, I suppose.

You bring up a good point. I figured the Genesis line needed another model to be complete so the G70 would just replace the Azera. I also thought it may just be a badge change and not a brand new model. The G70 though, is a more fitting design with the Genesis family and has a RWD platform.

I think there is a different market focus. The Azera is IMO, more for the mature market while the G70 is geared to the younger, sportier buyer. .

I’m thinking you didn’t get the memo. Car sales are in the pooper vs. SUV/Crossover vehicles.

Let's face it - Genesis and Hyundai are the only ones with dumb ideas - I agree with the OP as I own a 2014 Azera which has also been one of the better cars I've ever owned. Hyundai never marketed it and hence it's death. Lexus laughs at Hyundai/Genesis - don't mention the two names in the same conversation.

Of course you agree with that dumbass idea because you own an Azura. They don't have a market for it in America and were never sold hence why they stopped selling them here. Also they already said they would NOT just gussy up a Hyundai to put it to the Genesis because that is just half ass doing anything. They have had the G70 in the works for easily 4 years before SUV/CUV sales started shooting up so why would they just throw all that money away to pretty up a Sante Fe and try to sell that to only see it FLOP because LUXURY buyers don't want FWD or pretty up econobrand vehicles. If Lexus laughs at Genesis so much why the f$%k are you here??? Go to a Lexus forum so you can join the fun.

Also the Azura is WAY bigger than the G70 and is about the same as the G80 so that would be dumb as f$%k to sale it and take away the 80 sales. Jesus do you think before talking or nah?

I guess you never heard of manufacturers that produce the same or similar cars under multiple names - the basic theory of marketing - you will sell more of the same item marketed under multiple brands than you will if marketed under just one. Chrysler/Dodge, GMC/Chevy - think about it. And lastly it's AzEra with an E. And Genesis not doing so great lately with the G80 anyway or any other models for that matter.

Well that escalated quickly lol.

I agree though. Branding Hyundai stuff as Genesis probably would not work well for the market they're going after, and neither would using FWD platforms. I think they're going in the right direction. Definitely some missteps along the way but hopefully they'll get there.

No kidding...LOL. Thought it was me for a sec...had to shake it off.

No worries - I'm in that one as well. But I happen to own both brands so if it's okay with you, I'll stick around for a bit.

Yeah I forgot about the RWD vs FWD. It makes sense then that they went the G70 route. I will be in the market to replace the Azera in the next year and have been looking at the G70. My biggest issue with the car is the terrible rear legroom. Everything else I can get over (lack of interior lighting, substandard read seat heating, etc) but the legroom might be a deal breaker but I will reserve judgement until I can sit in one.

Any reason why you don't like the G80 Sport? You would have much more leg room, but still get the 3.3T.

My dad drove an Azera. He and I both really liked it. To me, it felt like Hyundai's Avalon. A step above the Sonata/Camry with similar design elements but a luxury-lite and decently big.

G80 Sport is tempting but the design is becoming a bit long in the tooth as its nearing time for a redesign. A great value if you can fetch one at a big discount though.

RWD and a little smaller is what I'm looking for. My favorite cars were a 98 M3 Sedan and 2007 335i sedan. Neither had great rear leg room but just enough when I needed it. I'm 6'2"and can move closer to the wheel and a little higher when necessary. I have adults in the back seat 5% or less, so small, quick and agile fits the bill. Hopefully Genesis continues shooting for the fun, they will earn my business for a long time if they do.
