  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Did I find a sort of warranty "loophole" / deal?

Basically, you can buy better than a CPO warranty for a used car for less than usual difference between CPO cars for sale and used cars for sale, so long as the used car is under 10,000 miles

The price difference online seems to be about $1500 and the internet guides about CPO cars say it comes with a roughly $2000 higher price. But factory manufacture extended warranty that comes from Hyundai Corporation can be bought and priced at www.mygenesisprotection.com. For a used, non-CPO GV80 with <10,000 miles, the 10year/100,000 mile bumper to bumper Platinum plan cost $2400 (which could be negotiated down if you go to a dealer to buy it). Above 10,000 miles it jumps to $3600 which is less reasonable and this doesn't really work.

So you regain the 10year/100,000 powertrain warranty, plus get bumper-to-bumper Platinum for 10 years/100,000 miles (which also, I think?, covers more than the standard new warranty, since it extends to other thing).

So if you're planning on getting an extended warranty already, then it's makes more sense to get the used car at a little better price.

Do I have this right?

You get what the paperwork says for as long as it says.

Last time I bought a Hyundai Platinum Protection Plan extended warranty (2017), it covered everything that the original factory 5/60 warranty covered out to 10/120k at zero deductible at my dealer ($100 other dealers). Most of these terms are choices you can make, including duration, miles and deductible.

Used them a few times over 10 years for: seat limit switches, steering wheel limit switches, alternator on a 2009, alternator on a 2012, side mirror gear (yes they replaced the entire mirror assembly instead of the $8 gear and billed $2k), HECU on a 2009, HECU on a 2012.

Bought all my cars used above 10kmi each. Paid the higher price at 5 yrs before the factory BtB was up and got paid back 2x at least with all the above work.

YMMV
