If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I bought my 2009 Black/Black V8 standard package on Jan 4th 2010. I had come to terms with the salesman on 12/29 for a V6 Premium package at the Truecar great deal price. He only had V6's with tech packages on the lot so he said he would get me a premium from somewhere else. I gave him my preference for color (Sapphire Blue or 2nd choice Black) he called me on the 2nd saying he had a Black/Black standard V8 and that he would honor the price we agreed upon. This made it a Truecar dealer cost price. Long story short I ended up getting the V8 and I am very happy with it. My only dislike is I have trouble finding a consistent comfort spot while driving because I am long in the body and stand just about 6'3". I have considered removing the useless hand hold over my head but that's a different thread.
My reason for posting is I visit this forum regularly but not always the appearance section. Between Bball, work and lots of snow I just recently realized the car has a lot of mod's. I knew the wings were attached both front and rear. But I didn't realize the pillars and small rear window being chromed was a mod. I didn't know this since the only other place I have ever seen a Genny is on the lot. Don't you think the dealer should have told me about these mod's. I don't drive the car to work so I tend to use it at night most of the time other than weekends. The last four out of five weekends have been three snowstorms and one torrential downpour. Let me know what you all think.

Seems to me that if you like the mods, why quibble? OTOH, if you don't like them you could always address the dealer and see what he has to say. Depending on where he got the car, he might not have been conscious of the mods either. You have exactly one of these cars; he deals with them by the dozen...

Quit your cryin and enjoy your car;)

Not crying.
Just very leery of all salesmen especially car salesmen.
In my opinion there should complete disclosure about the car when you decide it's time to buy.
Hard to believe they didn't realize there were aftermarket mod's made to a vehicle that only had 138 mi. on it.
I am due for my free 100 mi. inspection as soon as I can find the time to bring it in. I will try to get some answers then.

You should have thoroughly examined the car before taking delivery and agreed to have those items that you didn't like removed. I would touch base with the sales manager and have them get things straightened out.

It was a joke
Mine had the wings and pillar covers also at purchase. Nothing was said to me, but I didnt care. If you dont like them take them off. Word of advice...If you dont do it yourself...leave it alone. Unless you like the idea of the lot guys prying them off with screwdrivers.

Don't quite understand. You say "the wings are attached both front and rear". What "wings" are you talking about? Do you mean the Winged Genesis Emblems? If you do, then count your blessings. These are very desireable. Also, they are not aftermarket. They are Hyundai items with Hyundai part numbers. As for the "pillars and small rear window being chromed", yes, that is an aftermarket item. Looks sharp on a Black car IMHO, but if you don't want them, pull them off.

Count your lucky stars that you did not have to pay extra for these items.
As far as being angry at your salesperson, or dealer, GIVE ME A BREAK!

So let me get this straight. You didn't know there were aftermarket/KDM mods on your Genesis until you lived with the car for a while, but you expect a salesman to know and/or care? Even if the salesman did take notice of these mods, no one has to tell you anything about the car if they aren't asked. Nor is anyone else responsible for making sure you did a thorough visual inspection of the car before signing on the dotted line. You got a good price, right? I say, don't sweat the small stuff!

As for your seat discomfort, make sure you have fully deflated the lumbar support. I'm tall as well and if I even have the lumbar supported inflated a tiny bit I feel like I'm not sitting "in" the seat, but "on" the seat and I can't get comfy. Good luck! :)

Yeah, i doubt the salesman knew better, or even realized, or cared. He got the car sight unseen that met your overall requirements, so if you have some appearance mods, you came out pretty good imo.

Wow, guys, way to jump on the new poster who asked a sincere question. It's especially heartwarming to see everyone join in. Next time, use a bar of soap in a sock...

Sincere question?!?!?
Are you serious?

Thats like buying a car, then when you go pick it up they want to give you something for free.....Then you argue with the guy on why he did'nt tell you he was giving you free stuff before you settled on the car.

Wheres my soap in a sock lol

I think it was a sincere question. Nowhere in the OP post did he say "I can't believe this jerk salesman did this". His statement was:

"Don't you think the dealer should have told me about these mod's. I don't drive the car to work so I tend to use it at night most of the time other than weekends. The last four out of five weekends have been three snowstorms and one torrential downpour. Let me know what you all think."

So he's just asking what people think. Some people are very wary of addons like this. What happens if one of the badges falls off? What if the chrome pillars catch water behind them and cause rust, or otherwise degrade in appearance (quite a number of people had problems with the wheel caps). He might go back to the dealer expecting warranty service only to find these are not warranty items. If you think this can't happen, I've already had to get my stock grille replaced because the chrome was peeling.

He's not saying it's a big deal, only asking if it's unreasonable that the seller should have told him about these items and offered to remove them. He may not even be aware that many dealers are rebadging as a matter of course. I personally doubt the seller was trying to hide anything, he probably didn't even think anything about it, but a good salesman would have noticed, and pointed them out as add-ons. I have no doubt my salesman would have noticed and told me.

FYI My dealer covers them under warranty. Had an issue with the rear winged emblem, and they replaced it. No issues

That assumes that the thing given free is desirable. For example, maybe he would have preferred not to have the front wing badge (many who rebadge elect to leave the hood naked, which is the stock state). Personally, I think excessive chrome looks tacky, so I would opt not to have that put on (or maybe, it's hiding a big scratch to the pillar that the dealer was trying to conceal).

Regardless, the point is that he didn't get to choose. It really doesn't matter that it was "free" (and even if it was free, it wasn't...no dealer gives you something free that you don't ask for without making a big deal that they did).

And the bottom line is he asked for opinions, not a beating like he was whining about getting something for nothing.

As the part was not delivered on the vehicle configuration sold by HMA or HAC, I'd say that it's more about your dealer taking care of you. If they rebadged the vehicle before sale, then they probably have a box of the emblems sitting in the back. If you went to a dealer (like mine) who doesn't, I wouldn't be surprised if they had to order it from Korea and charged you for the part and labor.

Considering my area Hyundai corporate rep was surprised to see a rebadged sedan early last year, I'd be surprised if they would sign off on a warranty repair for a part from a different region and one that would be considered a DIO.

I would assume that the dealer installed the rear wing emblem that had a problem (a fair number of dealers are putting on the wings before the car is even sold or at the request of the buyer). But if not, then I guess they figured it was a $20 part they replaced for the guy as goodwill. As you noted, it certainly was not fixed under a Hyundai warranty.

Wow
Thank you ttsig and Data Guy for pointing out I wasn't whining. The only person who said I was angry was ctrcbob.
But none of that matters. I asked for opinion and I got it.
These last few posts gave me some things to think about. I hadn't considered any kind of warranty issues being a problem. And I definitely didn't consider these add ons being done to hide a problem, geez. I'm feeling pretty slow on the uptake here.
Well anyway it is a great car. I only buy a car for myself every 8+ yrs. I'm sure I will be glad I picked this over the Maxima I was looking at as an alternative. I have had it for 2 1/2 months and put 1000 mi. on it. But the miles will pick up some in the warmer months. I'm good for 10,000 mi. a year.
One of the reasons I got the Hyundai was my wife's 2007 Azera we bought 2 years ago. It was an off lease with 10K mi. She loves the car and it has been trouble free.

Coach, let me jump in here with a comment, if you please. I'm getting my Gennie in a couple of days. I'm 75, this is my umpteenth car, and I am as excited as an expectant father. Every new car is an adventure, one that we all look forward to. Whether it's our first car or tenth, it brings to us a new and wonderful occasion. There's a million questions I'd like to ask, many redundant as hell, but that's because of my fascination about all the details. So you ask all the questions you want, many of which will be answered by the great guys here. I can't tell you enough of the support I've received in my quest to be a Gennie owner.
Enjoy your car and never be afraid to ask. Hell, I suspect that once I get into my car and try out all the gadgets, I'll have many questions to ask. Happy motoring....

OMG, I can't believe this thread has come this far!
