  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I HAVE tried to find this in the Forum or elsewhere and can't, and the way the Hyundai site is set up you can't really figure this easily either.

Aside from the difference in engines, are there ANY differences between the 5.0 and 3.8 when both are Ultimates (which means, of course that the 3.8 includes the tech and signature packages as you have to get them for an ultimate.)
Thanks!!

According to http://www.hyundaiproductinformatio...15_genesisSedan/genesisSedan_key_features.asp (credit: Alwaysforward) the 5.0 ultimate adds, other than the engine:

Bigger Rear Tires:
P245/40R19(front) and P275/35R19 (rear)

Active Suspension:
Continuous Damping Control suspension - When driving normally, the damping force is
adjusted automatically to ensure superior ride comfort; damping force is increased for
enhanced precision, stability and control; also offers Sport Mode that adjusts suspension,
steering feel and transmission shift points

Illuminated Door Sill Plates (not sure about this one, but links above and below suggest that it's exclusive to the 5.0 at all trims).

7-inch display between the speedo and tach (also not sure about this one being exclusive to the 5.0)

Another link here which summarizes the trim differences:

And the big one everybody complains about.....fog lights. (LED)

(NOTE - in the US, the *** items are ONLY available on the 5.0)

To summarize, the BASE 5.0 builds on with 3.8 Tech package with following:
- V8 (of course) ***
- LED fog lights ***
- matte wood finish and aluminum trim (which is available in the 3.8 ultimate)
- illuminated door sill plates ***
- quad exhaust tips ***
- 19" alloy wheels ***

5.0 Ultimate then adds the following unique items:
- Continuous Damping Control suspension ***

All the other 5.0 Ultimate items are also on the 3.8 Ultimate:
- heads-up display
- bigger nav with PDIS system and controller (9.2" display)
- dual-mode vent control with CO2 sensor
- Lexicon 17 speaker sound system
- power trunk lid

mark, ernie and gunkk: thank you! even reviewing links I STILL can't quite pull the info you guys did; ridiculous!!! So looks like bottom line the ONLY stuff you gets for your cheddah when you get the 5.0 ultimate over the 3.8 ultimate is:

engine
Continuous Damping Control suspension
fog lights
quad exhaust tips

Illuminated Door Sill Plates (maybe?)
bigger rear tires (always obtainable on one's own)
increase of size in display between speedo and tach - nope looks like it comes with tech pkge

So IF I could find a 3.8 RWD ultimate (rarer than hen's teeth ain't found one yet) that stuff would be costing me 5k, if stuck with an AWD it'd be 2.5k. Nice engine but don't think it's worth it to me if this is right.

You get the different 19" Alloy rims versus the 18"ers on the V6 as well.

Almost forgot the other big thing you "get" with the 5.0: significantly lower fuel economy... and that's a gift that keeps on giving :D

Nikgen beat me to it - I was going to mention that. To me, it wasn't worth the increase in price for the 5.0 coupled with the extra money spent on fuel. Keep looking, there are 3.8 Ultimates out there. I have had mine for about 3 weeks....

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I recall from reading several reviews of the 2015 Genesis, that most were not impressed with the adjustable suspension on the V8 Ultimate. They thought the standard suspension on the other models was a better balance than could be achieved by any of the settings on the V8 Ultimate.

The 5.0 comes with slightly bigger front rotor (360mm vs 345mm) in Canada. Not sure about the US.

At first I was gonna get the 5.0 AWD just for the better looking rims, quad exhaust pipe, smart card key, and suede headliner.

But the $9000 difference + $2000 gas guzzler makes the $11000 price increase much harder to swallow. Not to mention that MUCH worse fuel economy on the 5.0 AWD, which is rated worst than a Ford F150 4x4 pickup truck

The 5.0 tau engine is buttery smooth, notably quieter than the V6. Definitely my preferred engine. The V8 didn't feel significantly faster than the V6, but that probably has to do with the extremely well isolated cabin.

On the other hand, the V8 didn't ride noticeably better than the V6 even with the adaptive damper. If anything the 19" tires might have slightly increased the cabin noise at higher speed.

Oh, but that quad tail pipe and suede headliner... Decisions, decisions, decisions

+ $2000 gas guzzler

Is that in Ontario? Didn't have to pay that in Alberta :)

If fuel economy was my concern I wouldn't be looking at a Genesis period. If I'm dropping 50k+ on a car I want a v8 or turbo 6.

But... But... In Alberta you can pump in those oil sands directly, can't you? :D

It is a federal tax, so I am sure it's across Canada.

If you have a 2015 Genesis 5.0 AWD and didn't have to pay that $2000. Wow, I guess you got lucky because the dealer most likely will have to eat that. Think of it as you got an extra $2000 discount. :D

We don't have the gas guzzler tax here either. We do have a gas guzzler tax which shows up with licence plate renewal every year to the tune of an extra $100 but this is based on displacement so the bigger you get the more it costs.

As original poster just wanted to say thanks for all 411. Now if only I could be sure about honesty of dealer(s) I'm looking to work with and a SOLID sense of cost: I mean if I walk in with Circle price how many other add-ons should I accept? taxes, advertising fees, destination, etc.
