  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello All,

I am new to the forums and this is my first post. I currently own a 2013 Genesis Coupe 3.8 Track, but, with the addition of a tiny human in my life the wife and I have decided it's time for me to get a 4 door vehicle. So where else would I look but at the sedan version of the car I've loved from the moment I set eyes on her! I have already decided on a 2015 5.0 Ultimate, preferably in Parisian Gray! But in my research I've noticed something of which I cannot seem to find an explanation. I've noticed that the center controls on the 2015s seem to be inconsistent, and I was hoping someone could provide some insight for me. I've attached a couple of pictures showing the differences. One has nothing but a parking sensor toggle button and the heated and ventilated seat buttons, while the other has quite a bit more. Was this an option only available on some vehicles? I personally prefer the 2nd option with the dial and home button easily accessible, but I'm curious why there is a difference. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, and I look forward to being a Genesis Sedan owner very soon!,

They are actually consistent to the model. Ultimate/Sport has the dial as you second photo shows, the others do not. Easy first indication to tell what you are looking at. With the Ultimate package you will not be able to add CarPlay or Android Auto if they are important to you

Ultimate has different accessories.
ULTIMATE PACKAGE
Genesis 3.8 Tech Package plus:
+ Genuine matte finish wood trim and aluminum trim
+ Heads-up display
+ Dual-mode vent control with CO2 sensor
+ Premium Driver Information System navigation with 9.2" HD Display
+ Lexicon® 17-speaker Discrete Logic 7® Surround Sound Audio System
+ Power trunk lid

ULTIMATE PACKAGE
Genesis 5.0 Standard Equipment plus:
+ Continuous Damping Control suspension
+ Heads-up display
+ Premium Driver Information System navigation with 9.2" HD Display
+ Dual-mode vent control with CO2 sensor
+ Lexicon® 17-speaker Discrete Logic 7® Surround Sound Audio System
+ Power trunk lid

Thank you so much for the quick response!

So basically only TRUE Ultimate packages will have the dial? Because a lot of listings online claim to be an Ultimate, but do NOT have the dial. They also claim to have the HUD as well, which I know is only available on the Ultimate trim level.

And Apple Car Play and Android Auto aren't all that important to me, but I'm curious as to why they wouldn't be available on the highest trim level, but they are included in the others? Seems a little strange to keep a great feature off of their highest trim levels.

Only true ultimate packages get the dial.

AA and CP are a limitation of the head unit design, the top level package is a larger screen and different hardware. Technically it's a software limitation but I haven't found a way to get it to run on the older headunit yet.

That's great to know, thank you. There seems to be a lot of false advertising online if that's the case.

Although AA and CP aren't super important to me, it would be a nice feature to have. Not a deal breaker in the slightest, but I'd be interested to see if it ever becomes a possibility.

Outside of Genesis dealers there is little knowledge of the intricacies of the Genesis. An amazing number of people have never heard of a Genesis. So, you came to the right place for information. As a group there is an amazing amount of information here by true car enthusiasts.

As a point of information, CP and AA came along after the design or the electronics in the Genesis. There was an update on the small screen models but not for the Ultimate. It is available starting with 2018 though.

I don't miss the CP/AA on my Ultimate - the wife's Soul! has the 8" Android H/U and the screen resolution leaves a lot to be desired and you have to have your phone plugged in. Not to mention the fact that the 9.2" completely fills the huge hole in the dash.

It would be nice to eventually have a software hack to enable the CP/AA, bit I can get on without it.

Yes they are different , but here in Canada the Genesis also have a few things missing , I don't have the rear sunshade or the blue link feature, and no AA/CP.

Also no option for RWD... and 5.0L only came in the Ultimate trim, can't even get the 5.0L with Tech if you really want AA/CP

I second the AWD recommendation if you live where these is snow, like my fellow Canucks. I had a 4.6 first gen and it was UNRULY in the winter.

Nice summary. However you forgot to list that the 5.0 Ulimate package also includes the genuine matte finish wood trim and aluminum trim.
