  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My DIS wheel and all the MFD function buttons on the console are no longer responding. Touch screen works fine along with nav. Even tried disconnecting the battery for a reboot but that did not help. I do have an appointment on Friday to have it looked at since warranty is still in effect. Anyone have this issue yet?

Diagnosis is they need to replace the DIS unit and associated wiring. They told me due to the high cost of this part it needs to be approved by Hyundai Canada which would take about a week. Apparently anything over a $1000 claim needs approval. They gave me the car back and will contact me when approved.

I also complained about a slight rattle at times to which was diagnosed as needing panoramic roof replacement. I was told not to worry since they were now experts at doing this due to previous experience. Will update as things progress.

It's things like this which make the extended warranty a no-brainer. I know you said yours is still under warranty, but I tend to rack up miles quickly on a car.

Few have had the DIS knob fail. Mine is still working like new on my 202,000 mile 2011 Genesis. The DIS is used several times a day every day. In newer cars that have the DIS type knob extra care is should be taken so as to not spill liquid onto the area where the knob is located. Not saying this happened in the above case, just a reminder.

+1! These days it makes no sense to keep a car beyond the factory warranty expiration without such coverage. I don't rack up big mileage, but we like to pass our cars down to our son's family. Extended warranties are transferable for a small fee and give great peace of mind. I just used the extended warranty for the first time on my '12 Genesis. It needed several replacement parts relating to the exhaust/cataltyic converter system. This repair alone paid for 1/4 of the extended warranty cost. My extended warranty remains in effect till 2024! I won't own the car then, but somebody will. I have the identical warranty on my Santa Fe Sport.

UPDATE

Got the car back, they did replace the entire DIS controller assembly and all is back to normal. Was rather annoying as I could not change the DST setting with the controller on the blink so my time has been off since the DST change. They also fixed my small rattle which was apparently the common pano roof issue. They no longer replace the entire roof, only the frame and use your existing glass. They also found the front windshield was slightly crooked so it was removed and reset correctly along with new trim. They had my car for a full week. Just glad it was under warranty as I can imagine the resulting bill would have been rather high. I can positively confirm the Genesis is much better in every way than the Elantra they loaned me. ;)
