  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

DIS disappointment

The entire system is dated. Doesn't even do Bluetooth audio streaming like my Hyundai Elantra loaner car does. o_O

im pretty sure my 2013 streams bluetooth audio. I remember reading it somewhere, but havent personally tried it yet.

Again I ask, which other manufacturer's OEM vehicles play video on a front display?

I know, I know. Not what you meant really.

wd40 it's a liability issue, get over it. I honestly don't know how the hell the aftermarket manus get away with it. Anyone?

09-12 no BT AD2P (music) streaming, only voice BT. That's a much bigger oversight IMHO.

I really enjoyed the Maybach video above. Note too the wrinkled leather seats. No butt paranoia there.

I've read here that the 2013 Genesis Tech DOES stream Bluetooth. If you look closely at the Hyundai website you can see that the head unit was changed from the previous years. Maybe criticism from users, focus groups and publications prompted the change. We know that the absence of streaming Bluetooth wasn't the only problem!! What really bugged me was that the "lower tiered" version of our car does have streaming! When it comes to music streaming, we paid more to have a less capable system. Here's another odd fact: the new head unit (2013) isn't a CD/DVD changer...it's single play. That's a " one step forward, one step back" move. I'm sure there's some manufactures reason. Hey YEH you want to give us Hyundai's reason for that decision?

I watched a portion of a movie once just to check the system out. I thought the quality of the video was very good.

Did I miss something in that linked video? PMCernie you saw seats?

Cell phones, texting and now we have idiots watching movies while driving. How long before someone is killed by some idiot watching a movie?

How about playing it for the passenger or kids in the back?

After you play the video above you will see several other video options. One is a 12 minute video on a used Maybach.

Thee is nothing to "get over". The unit will play a DVD when you insert a DVD into the player. If the manufacturer is going to supply an IPOD cable with the unit, there should be full functionality available. Just poor design IMO.

Seems a few folks DO watch movies in parking lots.

If your ever picked up your kid somewhere, only to have them say they need more time, I imagine the ability to run a movie would be good. I usually revert to Portlandia clips on YouTube.

What would be awesome is to watch Youtube, Netflix, & whatever else, on the DIS screen, whether via streaming or even a hard wire aux connection

My2wins plus 1 on both: a reason one would watch and your chosen viewing material (Portlandia)

PMCernie ok...usually my IPad shows other videos at the end of the clip. This time it doesn't. The "saggy bottom" issue is no big deal for me (it's very mild in my car). If you watch YouTube videos of our car you can rarely see a video where the seat bottom isn't rippled with some severely so (old Shar pei dog). The positives still far over shoot the negs.

I never tried it, but am curious if the 3.5mm jack next to the USB in the center console is audio/video, or just audio. If it is A/V, then an iPod video (older unit) outputs both audio and video through its 3.5mm "headphone" jack.
Yes, the submini jack in the console is audio AND VIDEO. It needs NTSC style video for US-spec cars (i.e. the old analog TV); I believe it'll also accept PAL video if the vehicle's "variant settings" (variables in the hidden engineering menus of the Tech package that tell what options the car has and where in the world it was sold). See the thread at Aux jack wiring and ideas

There is an iPOD cable that will allow iPODs with analog video output capability to send video to the Tech package dash screen. The unit doesn't accept digital video streams though.

Also, the Tech package has a second connector port (on the back of the head unit, inside the dash) for a rear LCD screen. Remember, the basic Tech package hardware is also used on the Equus with a rear screen and a rear DIS control panel. I imagine that would display video even while driving. The connector on the back of the head unit uses the same cable pinout as the one driving the dash LCD screen but a different plastic connector shell - to keep the cables from being mixed up on the assembly line. A little snipping is all it would take to convert a "dash LCD cable" into a short "rear LCD cable" or you could find the right part number and order it. And order a rear screen plus housing.

Ok, I just tested this today....

Materials needed:
1x 30-pin to RCA cable (apple branded, generic, whatever works - verify it with a TV before continuing!)
1x 3.5mm 4-pole to RCA cable (should look something like this - http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...083101&p_id=6229&seq=1&format=3#specification). I used one off of my Roku
1x RCA F/F connector (looks like this: http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10430&cs_id=1043009&p_id=3002&seq=1&format=2)

Plug all the RCA cables up, plug the 30-pin into the ipod/ipad/iphone, and plug the 3.5mm into the genesis. Hit play and watch the magic happen
