Disable Tilt-Telescoping Steering/Enable Memory Seats

I posted this question under "Electrical, Lighting... , etc." and received a couple of helpful responses, like contacting hyundai Customer service or disconnecting the wire to the tilt/telescoping steering control motor. I thought maybe I would post the question again in the General forum to see if there are any other suggestions, or more details like where to locate the tilt steering motor and which wire to disconnect. I have tried contacting Hyundai Customer Service, but they have not responded.

Here's my question:

I'm in a wheelchair and I need to install hand controls that operate the brakes and accelerator pedals in my newly purchased 2010 Hyundai Genesis V-6 Sedan. It has the Premium Nav package which means that it has the electronic Tilting-Telescoping Steering Column, integrated with the 2 Memory Seat functions for the Driver's seat.

The company that makes the hand controls says that in order for their hand controls to work, they have to disable the electronic Tilting-Telescoping Steering column. I can live with that part. However, they state that since the steering column is integrated with the memory seats, that the memory seats have to be disabled also.

Is there anyone out there who knows (or who can point me in the right direction of somebody who might know), how to isolate and disable the electronic tilt-telescoping steering function while keeping the memory seat functions enabled? I'm thinking that the hand control people just want to take the easy way out and possibly remove the fuse that controls the entire seat/steering memory function.

They can turned on and off individually if you have the Tech option. I don't know about other option packages, though. Good luck.

The Tech option is the only one I don't have. Too bad.... I wish I had known that was an option before I bought.

I have a V8 non-tech and I had the Hyundai dealer mechanic disable both the steering wheel and the seat.

The mechanic connected the Genesis diagnostic computer and he was able to make changes to both settings. He also changed the door lock/unlock to only unlock the drivers door.

I don't remember but I think he was able to change each setting separately. (ON or OFF)

Talk to your dealer's mechanic.

Thank you Stepping_Guy1! That should very very helpful.

So far, none of the Service Techs at the dealership seem to want to actually open up a Hyundai Service Manual to find out how do do this. I started elevating this issue at the dealership on Saturday so that hopefully somebody there will put a little bit more of an effort into this on Monday. I'll pass on your information on to the person I talk to.

Update: The Hand Control installation company was able to install my hand controls in my Hyundai without disabling either the memory seats or the tilt/telescoping steering wheel functions. They put in the extra effort to make sure this worked for me, even though the manufacturer of the hand controls said that it wouldn't work. (They sent the manufacturer pics to show how they did it.)

I am VERY appreciative of the company that put in this extra time and effort to provide such great service. Hyundai Service Dept put in a very small effort, but even saying that is being kind to them.

Very happy for you that you managed to get this installed on your Genesis.

I have a friend who needs hand controls. (No legs below the knees and one hand with only stubs for fingers). He has hand controls on both his Vette and his Accord. He told me that when he traded his old Accord for his new one, the price went up 100% on the hand controls, compared to his old Accord. Says the hand control company never has problems installing in his cars.

He also has a great outlook on life. When I first got my Genesis, I asked him to come and take a ride with me, so he could see the Genesis. His reply was, "Sure, want me to drive"?
