  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Has anyone had dealer service with interior disinfectant? I see local ads about this and wonder if it is a perfume more than anything. Or is it really disinfectant and effective? Repeated use has no effect on interior surfaces? Just wondering, as this situation may be continuing for a while

You've got me wondering the same thing. Would said disinfectant they're using damage the interior soft-touch and leather surfaces? Or is it all just a bunch of fluff (ie fabreeze) to make people feel better about everything?

Personally, I'm much more worried about the airborne spread of COVID compared to potential surface transfer.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
My dealer used plain old ordinary Lysol wipes
Not sure I'd trust that. My dealer puts a shrunken head on the dashboard and faces the car towards the sun during service. Then when returning the car they wipe the seat with bones from an ostrich neck before I get in. Works so far.

What type of ostrich? Please be specific........

Nah.... no chance at Raptor's tickets.. sigh
The thing about Nav Bahtia’s Ontario dealerships is that Genesis vehicles are serviced at his Hyundai shops. Last I looked anyway.

(Slight tangent on smells) On the DH sedan (2015-2016 Genesis Sedan, 2017+ G80), they can run into a problem with humidity causing a mildew smell from the AC, and the only way I solved it was to buy like 5 cans of Industrial Strength Lysol (it wasn't called that, but it was basically that) and spray it into the climate air intake under the hood on the passenger side. The car smelled like a hospital. On the flip-side, I never had a mildew problem after that.

I took my car in yesterday so I'll report back once I pick it up this afternoon. I bought some leather cleaner and conditioner (it was overdue for this anyways) specifically because I assumed they would spray/wipe the interior with some sort of alcohol based disinfectant.

Depending on the chemical used it can 100% damage interiors. (Bleach is a common ingredient that damages some surfaces)

I would say it's just fluff. There's a difference between sanitation and disinfection.
To truly disinfect something it needs to remain wet for minutes. I believe lysol is about 4 minutes? Can't remember off the top of my head.

I highly doubt dealerships or many other businesses are truly disinfecting surfaces. They are sanitizing the surface ~30 seconds. (I doubt businesses are even doing that long). This means they are 'killing' some of bacteria and viruses not 99.99%.

It's important to read the instructions on these chemicals as they differ quite from another on contact times.

Maybe I should start a new thread for this, not sure.
I don't know about disinfectant, but every time I've had my car at the dealer for service (when I had them change the oil once, and recently for the state inspection), they manage to get dirt or grease on the white interior. It's the only place I've EVER been to for service where they didn't have either plastic or paper to put on the seats and floor. The first time they got the floor mats filthy, and I had to take it back for their detailers to fix. Since then they ordered paper mats, "just for me" the service manager says! Crazy.
So I just noticed that after they put a new state inspection sticker on my windshield last week, the guy got dirt/grease stains all along the A pillar, where his arm must have rubbed. Luckily I think I was able to get it off. WTF!

That's a big down fall of having a white/Ivory interior. I had them check my cab filter , fingerprints all over glove box door!!! Really? I put a cheap seat cover over drivers seat when It goes into dealer. The dealer I use is pretty good with the repairs , but maybe could be a little more cautious with my Ivory interior. I feel tour pain Husky.

Yeah, it amazes me how they don't even bother to clean it up after, never mind trying to be more careful in the first place. Definitely wouldn't have noticed it with a black interior.
Just another reason I avoid going there.

Yeah I agree, It amazes me as well. If I had to work on a vehicle and the first thing I noticed was the light colored interior ,I would put on some latex gloves and maybe check my clothes for grease/dirt! I feel your pain.😝 Its hard to keep nice stuff nice !!

All Genesis vehicles in Canada are serviced at Hyundai dealerships as all Genesis franchises are owned by Hyundai dealers. There are a few stand-alone showrooms but no stand-alone dealers to my knowledge. Fine when they're picking your car up for warrant service, not so good when your're dealing with them for non-warranty work which I know from bitter experience.

Yes, it sorta takes the glitter off their fancy downtown boutique Genesis showrooms, doesn’t it.
