  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Do all 5.0's have active suspension?

Well if you do not have the ECS suspension you will save hundreds of dollars on replacement shocks. The ECS shocks cost about $600 each and are only available from Hyundai.

The OEM non-ECS shocks are about $200 each.
How notable is the active suspension? My father has had a bunch of Cadillac's with magnaride and that system is great.

I've always thought this car was well dampened, but I wonder how easy it would be to install the ECS? I wonder how much of the system I have?

I have not driven a non-ECS model, but the ECS model handles well in sport mode and ride smooth in ECO/normal mode.

It will not be cost effective to add an ECS system to a non-ECS suspension equipped model due to the needed sensors and other electronics. The shocks alone will cost about $2400-$3000 to obtain not including labor cost.

I had driven both (Tech & Ultimate) when I was searching for a 5.0 to buy - According to my "butt meter" the ECS in "sport" dampens about the same as a 5.0 with regular shocks. The ECS outside of sport mode gives a more relaxed ride in most easy going circumstances. I have noticed that it seems to firm up after it passes a certain G threshold. I do suspect that it also firms up past a certain (high) speed for stability - Otherwise, it would wallow like a shot duck over 85mph....! I agree with the above, this car has amazing dampening, especially considering the price point. Lotus earned their check for this one.

That being said - if & when my ECS starts going bye-bye, I'll fit standard shocks w/ the cancellers. Fortunately, @ 104K mine are still functioning normally (knock on wood)....
