  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Do you care about the infotainment, Android Auto/Apple Carplay?

I've been using Android Auto for about five years and I will never own another vehicle without it. I use AA every time I get into one of our vehicles. The reason I find it superior to anything else in the car's infotainment is that I can do everything with voice and the ability to make calls and respond to messages are completely hands free and seamless. You have the Google Assistant available for everything which is very handy.

There is also of course the ability to utilize Google Maps or Waze which are always up to date and show traffic that is better than any of the other systems I've used.

I have two glitches I encounter. Either the phone isn't recognized upon starting the car (happens about twice a week) and I have to unplug and plug it back in, or about twice a year the phone just loses the pairing in AA and I have to re-pair it.

The benefits for me greatly outweigh the few negatives.

While I don't have a GV80 yet, I do have AA capability in my current vehicle but don't use it, probably for a shallow reason. Its interface is just so plug ugly.

I use Apple CarPlay exclusively, and love it. Waze is my favorite traffics and navigation app. Don’t mind plugging it in as I don’t want to look at it while driving. Texts can be read and responded to, and voice mails can be heard. While driving it gets charged. Tell me what’s wrong with that?

Nothing wrong if it fits your needs. I'm just glad my lifestyle does not require me to listen to voice mails and respond to texts while I'm out. Glad you like it.

My older 2015 Genesis Ultimate also has hands-free voice commands for navigation maps, music and reading text messages as of the 13.5 update. However, the Ultimate system do not have free map updates.

I have been learning about the voice capabilities of the GV80 for controlling some of the in car systems which could be very handy. That of course is something that AA cannot do.

I think the biggest advantage of a system like AA or Carplay is that it can understand greater context and commands. For instance, with AA I can say "Call (insert business name here)" or "Where is the nearest Popeye's?" and have it lookup these things in real time, not based upon a most likely out of date database.

I also find it convenient to be able to ask questions and have the Google Assistant answer them before I forget that I even had the question :). It might not be exciting, but I'm always amused at how many times GA has been able to answer a question myself or my passengers have during a conversation. While you could always ask your phone for this information at anytime, having the interface activated through the infotainment system makes it less distracting and eliminates the need to handle your device which just became illegal where I live this year.

Due to the connectivity being always on (providing you have cell coverage) I don't have to worry about my system not knowing about a recent business opening or closing etc.....

I realize not everyone needs or wants this functionality, but the question of the post was whether nor not I care about the AA/CP capabilities, and I do.

Sounds good to me. If you prefer AA/CP over the stock system than who am I to argue. My point was that the stock Genesis system can also do most routine voice command functions like navigation, music and phone as well as AA/CP. However, AA/CP seem to have a bit more functionality and larger app choice than the limited stock system.

In my case, I really do not need anything more than what the stock Ultimate system provides. Hell, i can even stream my Audible Book account off my phone through Bluetooth which is what i am mostly concerned about on my commutes to work or my Amazon music streaming account. I do not use anything else other than navigation and the phone.

I do not ask my car trivia questions.:)

I prefer using AA because it's just one interface I need to know. Before the pandemic, I traveled a lot and rented a lot of cars. Before AA, I need to learn how to use the system that was in the rental car. Toyota, Volvo, Ford, Chevy, etc... all different and I needed to waste time figuring it out. Now I just need to figure out how to get AA going on the car and I'm good to go.

My "old" car doesn't have it and I wouldn't use it if it did, lol. All I need is bluetooth or an aux connection for music. I have an XMSirius subscription but I don't care much for it, you can't leave it on any station for more than a couple of songs and they don't have a station for my favorite music.

I just got my GV80. I love it!

To answer the question in this thread, I am an avid AA user for any time I need navigation. Google maps and traffic is far superior to anything else. If I am not in need of navigation (which is most of the time I am driving), I just connect the phone Bluetooth.

In my previous car, tapping the Voice button launches the car’s voice search, while HOLDING it for a second+ will launch google assistant (whether in AA or connected Bluetooth).

I have had my GV80 only a few days, I am going to MISS this feature! I am hoping I am missing something or an upgrade will fix this. It here should be a way to voice command either/or at all times.

If connected bluetooth, I may still want to play Spotify via voice command. If connected AA there are still instances I should be able to voice command the car for climate control or something.

the car2play?

it was like $150

CPLAY2air wireless adapter for factory CarPlay on CARPLAY2air.com – CPLAY2air.com

there are some others out there from $50-$150 buck.

I got this one and have had it since 2019 it works well, it did have some bugs when it came out, but the company has been good with firmware updates/fixes and notification (via email) when they are released
I’ve had one for about a year and it works very well. This conversation reminded me that I haven’t checked for updates for it in a while. Just found updates and now it seems to connect a bit faster.
