  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

With all the electronics especially in the ultimate package, do many of you get the extended warranty. I typically avoid extended warranties but I am considering it this time. It looks like it will cost between $2000 and $3000 and has to be done when you buy the car. What is your experience / opinion?

  1. Many Genesis owners with high end packages have purchased the extended warranty, as documented in many threads on this forum. In quite a few cases, it has turned out to be a very wise decision, due to the 36 month - 36K mile warranty on audio/video/GPS electronics.
  2. On the 2009-2014 it could be had for about $1200. Dealer cost was $1050.The 2015 is probably a little higher.
  3. No, you don't have to buy it from the same dealer you purchased the car from, and you don't have to buy when you purchase the car. Your dealer is a liar.
  4. Call Jim Ellis Hyundai in Atlanta for a quote. It can be purchased on the phone/internet from any Hyundai dealer, and they sell many warranties to out of state owners.

You can also check with your auto insurance carrier. Mine offers an extended warranty for the Genesis for 8.50 per month added to your policy premium, and you have until 15 months/15,000 miles before you have to add it. The only shortcoming is that it's 7 years (not 10), and has a 250 deductible (not 100). I don't know how many carriers offer this, but GEICO does.

I was quoted that price for my R-spec and Wife's 2014 Santa Fe, few weeks ago. I don't think they'll charge more for Genesis '14/15

The 10yr/100k Platinum warranty would be $1449 with a $100 deductible and $1749 with $0.00 deductible. If you would like to move forward with the protection please send me a copy of your driver’s license and I will overnight the paperwork to you with a return FedEx. After reviewing and signing the warranty you can include a check in the return FedEx and you will be all set. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you.

Thanks. I will check out my insurance carrier and also give Jim Ellis a call!

I bought it and only paid half of what there were asking for. No major negotiations since i told them that i would pay 50% of the sticker price and the said ok. Probably could of negotiated a better deal but i was ok paying $1300 for it.

There is no sticker price for those. They just pull the asking price out of their A$$. $1300 is a very good price.

At my dealership, the extended warranty quoted was $1495 for 10 year/$100ded or $1395 for 7 year/$100ded.

Append: And unlimited service for 4 years was $695. I passed on both offers.

I bought 10/100000/100 @ 1495 primarily for the fact that I'd be able to cancel my current extended warranty on the traded-in 2010 4.5 Tech and get ~900 back :)

With all the electronics in cars these days there's no way I'd buy one without an extended warranty.

Its still unsure to me whether electronics are covered by the HPP Platinum warranty.

I know it doesn't cover the radar cruise control which seems odd to me.

That is odd - does anyone have a list of what it does cover?

The platinum warrant covers everything that originally came attached to the car for 10 years or 100,000 miles. My coverage does include the radar, which is around a 7,000.00 ticket.

Here is a question: Once you pay the money, how do you verify that you are covered?

Did you receive any paperwork from the dealer? That should provide contact information to make inquiries to the warranty provider. Some after-market warranties sold by dealers use Hyundai as the provider, and some use 3rd party providers.

I might be wrong, but Genesis doesn't have laser cruise control... Key word - laser.
