  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Do you know that there are now two brands of Genesis cars?

This discussion is actually pretty amusing. For the foreseeable future, not to much really changes.

True - but why wait to throw a hissy fit when you can throw one now?

Once new Genesis dealerships actually open, the buying experience may be different. But that means nothing to those of us who already bought. And as far as buying again, buyers evaluate the car, competition, etc. as it exists when they want to make a purchase. Who buys a model of car from a dealer because he bought one with the same name years before without checking out the competition and the car?

These observations seem logical and sensible, but are quite lacking in righteous indignation and misdirected outrage - please try again.

As far as putting a G80 badge on in place of my 5.0 badge, just who is going to impressed by that?

Shhhhh - nobody will be impressed - but let's keep that between us.

Resale value? Unlikely to be any different than it would be if things stayed the same, as long as the cars are the same. The "books" have a way of evening things like that out.

I highly doubt that someone buying one of the first G80s off the showroom floor, paying close to list, is going to do better in terms of resale 4 years down the road than someone who purchased a very deeply discounted 2016 or even more deeply discounted 2015.

But to have so much back and forth over what is essentially a non issue, only on the internet!

Some people thrive on imagined crises, particularly on the internet!

Good news everyone! The Genesis app has the new Genesis brand logo and allows us to be a member of the Club, we're in!!

Per the responses, some of you have never encountered the "Luxury" experience of a MB, Lexus, Audi or BMW. Hyundai told us that they were developing a luxury division. If you are going to a luxury division, you don't alienate current customers! As soon as I can trade my vehicle, I am going to. I don't like some of the disrespectful comments on this forum attacking people for their opinions. This is my last post. You don't see this on the other luxury division forums.

Lol good riddance. What a last post to end on too.

While Hyundai is no way luxury and Genesis being sold at Hyundai dealerships is not going to make the Genesis experience much better they are trying and will eventually get there. There is a new Hyundai dealership that has been built here in northern VA and it actually looks nice with a nice service area, but again this is no way a luxury car experience quite yet.

I have had a couple BMWs and my dad just bought a new s600 maybach and I can tell you right now the experience can be just as bad with purchasing and servicing. MB and BMW takes customer service very seriously, but at the sales person level you can tell most of them are just fake. After my dad bought the maybach not once did they call him after to ask about anything...are there any problems? is everything ok? is there anything we can do for you? nothing...but the service department should be pretty good...however there are so many damn broken cars that to get a loaner at most of the shops you have to book months in advance.

Overall you should have a better experience at Lexus, BMW, MB even Acura, but I hope you really didnt buy your Genesis at a rundown Hyundai dealership thinking you were going to get the same kind of service lol. Hyundai cant make everyone happy just like any of those other brands...and even though MB and BMW making us unhappy with some of their services it will not deter us from buying the actual car as the car is well worth it...just like the Genesis is well worth the car.

And if you think some of the comments are too harsh here I dont think you have actually been in other forums...Ive been in BMW, MB, GTR, Lexus forums and they have some of the rudest members...but they all have all types of members. You have to remember most of the guys using forums are young internet savvy kind of users...I highly doubt a big time CEO driving a Bentley will be on Bentley forums lol...im sure he has other things to do. So take it easy and just take things as they come...I cant possibly think you lived your entire life without some kind of confrontation or dealt with people you didnt like.

Hope you stay here and contribute, but if you dont take care...we will see you in another forum.

Hey, you said you were not going to post anymore. So?????

Further, if true, it is a TERRIBLE idea to sell the G80 at both Hyundai and Genesis dealers. That undermines the whole idea of spinning Genesis off as a separate brand?
Maybe they meant for the next 5 years that one can be a Hyundai and Genesis dealer at same location, but eventually the Genesis dealers will be expected to have a completely separate dealership to sell the Genesis after that.

Apparently, you drive a Genesis Coupe, not a sedan. The coupe was never even close to an entry level luxury car, and should never have been named Genesis. It obviously will not be a Genesis in the new brand (I heard it is will be discontinued, but not sure).

How can an owner of a Genesis Coupe come on this forum and start lecturing us about the "Luxury" experience of a MB, Lexus, Audi or BMW? A true luxury car experience is never having to visit the dealership, not drinking a free cup of cappuccino in the waiting room.

To see current owners groveling about a few insignificant perks offered to 2017 owners, that they want for free instead of having to pay for, is the absolute opposite of luxury and class.

I have no idea what type of vehicle the person you responded to owns - and I doubt you do either. If I were you I would be very careful with asserting who is and isn't allowed to post on the G2 forum. Since you own a G1, you are technically in the same boat as him, i.e. you don't own the right car to be posting in this forum.

Your constant thinly veiled insults at people are getting old too - this is not the first or even the fifth post you have made where you insult people. It's getting old.

DING, DING, DING, we have a winner!

So true Mark. If it's a true luxury vehicle, it shouldn't need to be in the shop for repairs all of the time.. My cousin was a BMW mechanic for a time. Told me to never buy one as they were always in the shop for repairs.

Hey Austin, do a little reading, Corpnup has listed in his byline that he drives a coupe. ;)

And while I do agree with you for the most part about Marks ramblings, I do think he's spot on this time. A rare occasion.

Couldn't have said it better myself. The verbal bullying and condescending tone is beyond tiring. Some of us are trying to have a civil dialogue and without fail, Mark_888 and several others chime in with their know-it all attitude. Almost on cue. Reminds me of the behavior of one of the candidates...

This discussion is actually pretty amusing. For the foreseeable future, not to much really changes. You go a Hyundai store to buy a Genesis. Of course, it will be interesting to listen to the dealer try to explain how a 2016 Genesis is a Hyundai and the 2017 Genesis sitting next to it is a different brand!

The service experience may be different, but just how much different will it really be? Who knows?

My experience with service departments tends to be location dependent. Some treat me better than others. Somewhat of a non-issue for me because I rarely ever had to get warranty work. Hope the same is true for my Genesis.

As far as putting a G80 badge on in place of my 5.0 badge, just who is going to impressed by that?

For me, replacing the badge (temporarily) makes my vehicle somewhat stealthy. There just aren't many G2's driving around Cleveland. I like having a vehicle that many folks have never seen before and aren't sure what car it is.....having said that, I know more and more will be around soon and I'll loose my anonymity. And that's OK...

Resale value? Unlikely to be any different than it would be if things stayed the same, as long as the cars are the same. The "books" have a way of evening things like that out.

I'm the king of negative equity, so I usually buy a vehicle heavily discounted.... hmm...the Genesis! Regardless, I knew my car was going to drop like a bomb the day I drove it off the lot...so I can't say any surprise here. Look how much MB and BMW's plummet after their warranties are over.

But to have so much back and forth over what is essentially a non issue, only on the internet!

I agree here...when I bought my Hyundai, I had no idea or fear that the Genesis brand would be born. But the forum is all about discussion and seems some things are important to others that don't faze me at all....and again, that's OK. Most importantly, rudeness aside, I learn so much about my car and all the things associated with it...and that's awesome.

That's because there is only one app at this time, and it is the one we have always used. I don't know whether you are on iOS or Android. If you are an Apple person, go to the App Store and enter Genesis Motors in the search. You will find that it is your app by checking "version history." We can also sign into the Genesismotorsusa.com website with our credentials. However, if you attempt to save your vehicle using your VIN, you will be told that you do not own a Genesis. You own a Hyundai. This is where the inconsistency is evident.

I am all for a civil dialogue. When I pointed out the irrationality of your argument that claimed it should be a no-brainer for Genesis to offer the G80 perks to previous Hyundai Genesis owners, you are now accusing me of "bullying and condescending."

Just because I replied directly to your arguments, and provided a rational critique (one should know how much it costs before saying it is a no-brainer), doesn't make me a bully. You are welcome to provide a counter-argument to what I post anytime you wish, but making personal attacks is in violation of forum rules, not to mention very poor internet forum etiquette.

How would you characterize the following? Civil? Respectful?

This whole thread reeks of what appears to be a bunch of crybaby's who want to get something for nothing. If you want free oil changes, and the other stuff, you can pay for it.

Again, your tactic has been displayed time and time again. The example above is a personal attack against anyone in this thread that has a different viewpoint than yours. "crybaby's"? Really?

With so many posts, I suspect you don't even realize how you come across anymore (most likely you couldn't care less).

Here's my point - you seem to look at buying a car as a transaction. Buy it and be done short of service. Hyundai cannot be successful if it follows that approach. They MUST focus on the LTV of a customer. To do so, they must invest in building brand loyalty. They have (had) brand loyalty from Genesis owners but if they decide to abandon them, they will most likely lose them. Not just lose them as future customers but more importantly, lose them as brand champions. It is not smart. But if you only look at the near-term costs, then being smart is not high on the priority list.

It's funny to see all these comments about how Hyundai is going about this new branding the wrong way like they know how much run Hyundai as a business or better yet any business.

They went from no company to building crap vehicles for cheap to decent cars for cheap to good cars for cheap...I'm pretty sure they know what they are doing or at least more than we do.

And again I can't reiterate this enough...let's wait and see what they actually do with us as nothing actually has been done. Plus remember you did buy a Hyundai genesis and not a genesis g80. We always want what's best for us even if its unfair but never what's worse for us.

Just for shts and giggles what if the new genesis had to remove android auto for the 14 speaker lexicon guys or even us if we had it because of some kind of branding issue with genesis. Would you mind them automatically taking it off on your next oil change visit because you were now part of the genesis group? Of course not because you bought the car that way.

All I'm trying to get to is we all bought this car because it is a fantastic car for the price...otherwise we would have all bought a fully decked out e class or 5 series or s class no? So try not to let greed overrun your enjoyment of this car as it's a superb car.

I don't disagree with your overall message - If anything, I think many of us want Genesis to succeed as a Brand and are just concerned with how they are going about it and with what seem to be missteps that could derail them - that's all.

Overall it's good car (except the sunroof design) and a great value, but in my personal experience, a huge disappointment in the dealer service departments - both in terms of quality of work and integrity. I was hoping that spinning off Genesis will improve that aspect of ownership - we'll see.

I think we all know that for the near future the dealer experience will not change. You'll still be getting Elantra loaners and such. To be honest the reason I am even considering a Genesis (aside from family members having good experiences with one) is because I DONT WANT TO BE AT THE DEALER. My parents have had TONS of bad dealer experiences with BMW and Mercedes dealerships especially with the M5 they owned.

Mark is correct, 'Luxury' is not visiting the dealership. All the valet service in the world isn't as good as simply not having to have stuff fixed on your vehicle.
