  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Do you know that there are now two brands of Genesis cars?

Well, actually, we ARE in the Genesis Motors forum. The top level forum is called "Genesis Motors Forum".
Yes, it is very complicated:

Here is the new forum:
Genesis Motors Forum > Genesis Motors Forums

Here is the forum we are in now:
Genesis Motors Forum > Hyundai Genesis Sedan Forums - 3.8 V6, 4.6 V8, 5.0 R-Spec V8 > General 2015-2016 Hyundai Genesis Sedan Discussion

I got to wondering if there will be a separate forum for the new Genesis brand, or will it be included with the current forum.

Nikgen already gave you the link to our INTERNAL Genesis Motors area. But I'm also working on a couple of new sites that I might as well just link to for everyone:
http://g80forum.com/
http://g90forum.com/

Those sites are running state of the art forum software and I do anticipate some people preferring, over time, a spot for one specific model. If that doesn't work out I'll cross that bridge if and when I get to it...

Thank you...

Eventually this site, Genesis Owners, will be primarily Genesis Motors so I'm just planning for the future with the current hierarchy...

I like the look...very clean and modern. Thanks for your hard work.

Yes, luxury is getting more and more blurred these days with cars like the Kia Optima being pretty luxurious - and the new Kia Cadenza being a truly impressive entry-level luxury automobile. But in 1989, the Lexus LS was a truly luxurious automobile...

Yeah, but the 1st ES was a rebadged JDM Camry.

Owners do spend less time at the dealership. But many Lexus owners love the perks that BRING them there more often than they would be at other brands. For example, free car washes. You can stop by every day if you want - and they'll wash your vehicle - for free. I stopped there PLENTY of times to drop off my car for a free wash, coffee and snack.

Lots of mainstream brand dealerships offer that - including the newer Hyundai dealerships.

Things like having a coffee bar (w/ a barista) and a salon is overkill.

Even BMW treats it's customers like gold. You go by for whatever reason (even to look at their cars) and eat a free breakfast, lunch or dinner. Many BMW dealerships have a cafeteria where you order your food - and just eat it. No paying. No tipping. Luxury means more than getting a free coffee or donut.

My worst dealership experiences has been at a BMW dealership.

Lexus sales seem to say people are liking that new front grille treatment...

Not at the higher end - combined GS and LS sales are the lowest they have ever been.

Anyhow, here's the tentative retail plans for the Genesis brand (things can change over time).

Hyundai USA has pared down the # of dealerships that can sell the G90 (to less than 350, down from about 415 that had sold the Equus).

All Hyundai dealerships will be able to continue to see the G80 until the next gen model - which will then be restricted to the 300 or so dealerships that have passed muster to be Genesis dealerships.

Plan is to have separate Genesis dealerships in the major markets about the time when the full lineup has been launched (so 2021 or so thereabouts).

For the mid-size markets - a dual Hyundai/Genesis dealership model.

For small markets - showroom within a showroom.

Here's the plan laid out in a Wards Auto article.

Genesis Stand-Alone Dealers Likely in Five Years
Aug 18, 2016 Christie Schweinsberg | WardsAuto

VANCOUVER, BC, Canada – Hyundai targets 2021 as the date its new Genesis luxury brand will require stand-alone stores in the U.S.

However, the parent company is not forcing the issue, says a top Hyundai official, hoping the need for separate showrooms is dictated “organically” by a growing lineup and increasing sales.

“What we told dealers is, we’re coming out with six new Genesises over the next five years and oh, by the way, we’re coming out with 15 new or significantly redesigned Hyundais over the same period,” Hyundai Motor America CEO Dave Zuchowski says here during a ’17 Genesis G90 media preview.

“(We said), ‘You’re not going to have enough room. You’re going to need to take this vehicle and separate and get incremental volume out of it...and we want you to come to us and tell us how to do that.’”

However, Zuchowski sees stand-alone retail outlets necessary only in major metropolitan areas with a healthy pace of premium-vehicle sales. He rattles off Miami, New York and Chicago as likely locales for such ventures.

Dealers in midsize luxury markets will have separated showrooms with different entrances for Genesis and Hyundai customers, although service departments may be shared.

In smaller U.S. new-vehicle markets, a showroom-within-a-showroom setup likely will remain.

The latter setup is the way U.S. Hyundai dealers had been selling the Hyundai Equus large sedan, which the G90 replaces.

Hyundai has whittled down the roughly 415 of its 835 stores that had been selling the Equus, to less than 350 now for the arrival of the G90, focusing on markets with higher luxury-sales penetration.

Yeah, but the 1st ES was a rebadged JDM Camry.

That's fine. The LS was the showcase car and the ES gave lower income people an opportunity to be a part of it all. Besides, the first generation ES kicked the Cadillac Cimarron's butt all over the place...

Mainstream brands are getting better but they have a way to go - and premium brands keep improving here. Until VERY recently my local Hyundai dealership had coffee - but you had to ask the nasty "window assistant" for the k-cup so you could make it. That's silly.

Sure, but everybody has a worst experience somewhere and that can be anywhere...

Forget about the higher end. That has nothing to do with design. I don't even need to MENTION to YOU why their upper-end sales are declining - so I won't...

Where THAT "issue" isn't as much of a concern - RC, IS, ES - the design is much loved and it's kind of obvious. I see IS' and ES' everywhere - and the RC is becoming pretty popular around here as well...

I think that plan will work just fine...

Didn't take much to kick Cimarron's butt:

"The Cadillac Cimarron was a ... variant of General Motors' J-cars ... manufactured alongside the Chevrolet Cavalier, Buick Skyhawk, Oldsmobile Firenza, and Pontiac J2000/2000/Sunbird at GM's South Gate Assembly and Janesville Assembly plants"

"...featured a straight-4 engine (the first 4-cylinder Cadillac since 1914, and the first Cadillac with an engine below 2 liters since 1908)"
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cadillac_Cimarron

The ES300 had a 3.0 liter V6 (same as the V6 Camry).

Still, at the time, only HALF of the Lexus lineup was luxury -and beating the Cimarron was a very low bar.

It depends on the dealer.

I've seen mainstream dealerships w/ the fancy coffee-making machines (not the K-cups, but freshly ground from a choice of 3 types of beans) and having an array of snacks (chips, cookies).

Sure, they're not serving gourmet snacks, but I'd rather not spend that much time at a dealership.

Sure, but everybody has a worst experience somewhere and that can be anywhere...

But the point remains, even luxury brands have varying customer service; even Lexus owners have complained about the service at their Lexus dealer.

While there are other reasons for declining Lexus sales at the higher end of the luxury sedan market, do think that the Predator grill has played a part w/ the more traditional/older Lexus buyer.

The rendition of the Predator grill on the GS and LS look tacked on and don't flow w/ the rest of the sheetmetal unlike, say, for the LF-LC where the design is much more cohesive, along w/ a better rendition of the grill.

RC and IS sales aren't where Toyota wants them to be and while the ES is still doing fine, lot's of buyers eschew design over things like reliability and practicality.

The 3G Honda CR-V was one unattractive-looking crossover, but Honda sold gobs of them.

Many people just don't place a high priority on aesthetics (or they have little clue) - hence, a good portion of the population wearing mom-jeans or double-pleated khakis.

While it's true the ES300 had a 3.0 liter V6, it was the ES250, not the ES300, that was introduced alongside the LS400 when Lexus launched. This would be the one to compare to the Cadillac as the Cimmaron ended its run in 1988. The ES250 had a V6 but it was only 2.5L. At the time the Cimmaron ended its run, it had a standard 2.8L V6, still anemic but definitely better than the 4 cylinder that it started with.
