  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Yes, other than a couple times I have never used or required the power of the 4.6, the trade off for reduced fuel economy does not outweigh the occasional thrill of showing off in my opinion.

Anyone unhappy with their 4.6? Lets trade. hehe. I would need to find a red 4.6 with beige. hehe

I settled for the V6 because that is all I could find in the color combo I wanted in a timely manner.

test drove a 3.8 black on black, we were impress by it at first, then we went and test drive a 4.6. What a different.

No regrets, I like the power which my wife and I use often around Atlanta, the brakes are larger with 4 pistons and braking is great. I like the 18" V8 wheels vs. 17 or 18 V6 wheels, the chrome on the doors, the better headlights, and the fact that the Tau V8 engine has hydraulic lifters while the V6 has solid lifters that will require more maintenace as the car ages. Oh, and also I perfer the German made ZF transmission that comes with the V8.

I have no regrets in my purchase of the Hyundai Genesis 4.6 I like the features that the 4.6 offered. If the 3.8 had have offer these features I may have purchased the 3.8 but there is just something about a V8 that I prefer over a 6. As far as gas milage I am getting better gas milage than I got with both the 2007 Lexus LS460 and Cadillac DTS Performance that I had owned.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
A resounding "NO" would be the answer. The 4.6 is the only Genesis I would have purchased. Better engine, better tranny, more stuff, minimal price difference...limited downside here fellas.:D

I've never regretted getting the 4.6 over the 3.8. My dealer did not even have the 3.8 at the time and two Black on Black 4.6s had just been delivered. The shipping tape was still on the vehicles. Like others have said, the differences vrs the difference in price did not justify going for the 3.8. As far as mileage goes, this is giving me better mileage than any other full car I've ever owned (Mercedes E500, Volvo V70R, Audi A6 4.2, Cadillac DeVille). Twenty seven mpg at 78 mph is hard to beat for a 375hp 4.6L V8. Looking forward to testing a R Spec.

I've said this on other threads before so sorry for the repeat for those who read it already.

I had a 3.8 Genny and a 4.6. I preferred the 4.6 for all the reasons stated above.

In 2009 when we bought the first Genny, my husband wanted the V8 but I balked because I thought I'd get better gas mileage and so we purchased the V6. The second Genny was a V8...had I known that the difference in mileage would be so negligible, I would have gotten the 4.6 in the first place.

Yep, a larger engine may not use that much more gas. On the tv show "Top Gear" they took a BMW M3 V8 around the their track and had a Toyota Prius follow. Of course the BMW was faster and the BMW used less gas than the Prius on the track, also the overall carbon footprint is lower on the BMW.

yes,
(kind of)
Now I wonder if I should have waited for the 5.0L because I love the extra power on the 4.6. I want more.

In 2009, I went with the 3.8 Premium Plus for the value. Paid $32K. You simply can't find another new car for that price that comes close to the size, features, etc.. of the 3.8 Genesis. If forget what the uplift in price for the V8 was at the time, but it was not insignificant. For me, the "upgrades" did not justify the extra expense.

For 2012, the base price MSRP difference between the two is $10,300. That is a huge difference. Roughly a 24% premium to go from a v6 to a v8. For some it may be worth it, but for me it's a no brainer. Not even close.

Just my opinion, but the dollars speak for themselves.

BTW, go back and read the 2009 era car reviews. Many of them stated the same thing. Not worth the cost to upgrade. Much better value as a v6.

You are correct if you compare a base V6 with the V8 with tech. However if both cars have the tech package then the up charge to a V8 is around 2000.00 maybe less and for most buyers that is worth it since the V8 has alot of other goodies.

Zero regrets. If you are worried about MPG then a performance sedan V6 or V8 is not for you.
I would say the value on V8 is as good as the V6. What would it cost to get a comparable performance sedan to match the V6?
What about the V8?

For those on the fence about the 4.6:

According to a series of tweets by InsideLine Senior Editor Erin Riches, Hyundai has complained that the 4.6-liter is too costly to re-certify for emissions. While unconfirmed, the assumption here is that the 5.0-liter could be offered in a detuned form for standard models, or that the current R-Spec version with 429-hp will become the new base engine with an even more potent R-Spec for 2013.

Actually, I regret not owning it. I plan on upgrading to the V8 when I get a new lease next year.

The V8 was the reason I bought the Genesis. I originally started looking at the G8 GXP until it went away. Then it was the E550, 550i, GS460 or M56, all as CPO purchases. The Genesis 4.6 was the answer to getting what I wanted, new and at a bargain. Frankly, a V6 was never even considered.

I actually think the stock 17" wheels are the best looking, although they are a little small.

The Aisin transmission on the V6 is not exactly chopped liver. Aisin is 50% owned by Toyota and was created to build RWD transmissions, mostly for the Lexus line, and the transmission in the Genesis is a proven and reliable product. The main reason for the ZF is to handle the extra HP and torque generated by the 4.6L. The Aisin is perfect for 3.8L.
